A friend of mine got a bunny a few months ago and gave her to me yesterday. She said she just didnf have the time for her. Well ive got already got a male bunny. Hes about 2 1/2 months old. Hes very healthy and well taken care of.
Well i noticed on the new bunny that when i pet her i can feel her spine and her hip bones. Which on my bunny i can not. Her fur is very matted around her legs, and tail. I clipped a bit off and gave her a bath to wash her feet and the matted areas. She seems pretty healthy other than being under weight.
So what is the best way to get some meat on her bones? Even her coat looks dull.
My bunny is a dwarf lop? Im not sure what the difference is. I feed him a little more than half a cup of pellets a day and hes got his hay. Hes fairly small still. The new bunny is a holland lop. Shes about a year old and she was only getting fed about the same as mine and i noticed she does not have a hay rack in her cage. How much should i be feeding her on a daily basis?
I just want to get her nice and healthy.
        Thanks

Have you checked to see why she might be underweight first? She could have internal parasites.

Hey Christina! Both your bunnies should get a serving of pellets, dark leafy veggies and unlimited hay on a daily basis. And of course, fresh water.

Start by adding a hay rack to her cage, and see how she responds. She definitely needs to start eating hay. Have you tried feeding her veggies?

When I had two underweight bunnies last summer, I got weight on them by using barley rings. These are designed to get weight on horses, and so are suitable for a bun too. Other people find sprinkling oats over food helps.

Weight gain needs to be gradual, and any diet changes need introducing slowly. if you are concerned I would take her to the vet for a check up, or at least ring them. They might also advise on what best to feed her

Shes eating like crazy. I set her up a hay rack and shes been eating from it too. I fed her some veggies as well and she ate them up. I’m not sure if she was already under weight when my friend got her or not.
                Shes doing find tho.

                  What are barley rings?
Ill try putting oats over her food.
I’m not too concerned about her she seems to be doing alright.
