So, I live in the UK and while taking my dog out to my local park, I saw a rabbit on the verge nearby. It was clearly a domestic pet, and very relaxed with strangers and dogs. I’ve been a couple of times each day, and saw it every time. I’m worried it may be harmed by predators such as dogs or foxes, as it seems to be way too laid back for its own good. I’ve tried catching it with a towel today, and tried for about an hour in catching it, but gave up. I’m sure I saw a gash on its shoulder, so I want to try and catch it as quickly as possible before the wound becomes infected. I live in a very desolated area- so I can’t contact an animal shelter for help. I have one rabbit already, and have a spare cage to care for it until I find the owners/ give it a new home. The problem is CATCHING it. Is there a trap I can lure it into? The cage is too bulky to use, and I have no carriers.

My initial plan is to lure it in a box I have with food, while having a stick balancing the box with a string tied to it. Maybe when it’s fully in I can just tug the string and let it fall? I’ll have a towel lain underneath, so I can flip the box easily.

Is this a good method? Are there any more effective ones? What food could entice it? I have some vegetables, and rabbit treats from my rabbit to use, but is there anything else better? Some advice quickly would be much appreciated, as I’m going to try tomorrow morning.

Do you have anyone who could go with you? When we caught our strays, we had three of us. Also, what are you doing with the dog, as having a dog with you won’t help. Food is probably the best lure, and maybe hay. A cold hungry bunny may look on a box of hay as paradise?

I’ve used the box method and it absolutely works, just be patient as it may take a long while
