My bunny (male mini lop 1 yr old) suddenly got sick a few weeks ago.
After being admitted to the vet for about a week, I brought him back home and have been continuing care at home.
I haveto give him 2 types of injections, metronidazole 4.7ml and oxytetracycline .19ml once daily.
I have been doing okay for a week. But a couple of days ago I noticed a hard bump under the skin at the injection site.
The skin looks darker like its bruised.
Im wondering if I did something wrong. Like I didnt go ‘deep enough’ and the injection got ‘stuck’ in the skin, rather than going ‘under’ it.

        Has anyone experienced this?
Will the bumps go away on their own and is the medication still effective if I havnt given the injection correctly?

        Thanks!

Rabbits are pretty susceptible to skin reactions from injections, unfortunately. It could be from the medication itself or sometimes a sterile abscess will form. Usually things heal up on their own. Do ring and report it to your vet though. There may be something about those specific meds that they can tell you what to expect. In the meantime, chose a different area to give the shots, like around the rump. I always give a bit of a massage after sub-cut injections to help disperse the med under the skin.
