        Hello,

My name is Sarah and I have a 9 week old lionhead rabbit named Willow. I got her about 2 weeks ago. A few days ago I noticed that her left lip on the inside was very red and swollen. I was very worried so I brought her to the vets office. They checked everything out and said it was fine and it looks like she was just chewing/rubbing her mouth on her cage. It is now 2 days later from the vet visit and she no longer has a swollen mouth and she is fine. But today i noticed that her left eye was pinkish red. I got concerned and kept an eye on her. It is now an hour later and she had about 0.5cm of hair missing on the top of her eye. I don’t know what to do and what is causing this. Please help me and give me some ideas of what might be happening. Should I bring her to the vet? Please help.

        Thanks,

        Sarah

She could have a bit of pink-eye. Generally very easily cured in early stages with antibiotic drops. Very young animals don’t have a fully developped immune-defense yet so they can get infections easier than more mature animals. You can call your vet and ask. The hair-loss could be from her trying to scratch the area, and that’s not good because she could hurt her cornea with her nails. That would give bacteria even more opportunity to thrive.

Yes!!! Please do take her to the vet. This could be the beginning of something worse (not to scare you!) that YOU can prevent! (:

Sounds like it could be conjunctivitis to me as well. It’s definitely better to treat it right away instead of waiting until it looks really bad.
