I really hope this is where this goes, I was contemplating on the right forum, and hopefully I was correct.

So, when my bunny cleans herself, I noticed that I can see her skin? I’m a newbie rabbit owner, and a worry wart so I was wondering if this was normal for a black mini rex? She’s two months old, and from what I’ve seen is a healthy bunny. Thank you.

Welcome! Q and A is the right forum! If your rabbit’s skin is uncompromised, smooth and white (as opposed to red and irritated), without any trace of dandruff, I think she’s fine. A bun that young hasn’t gotten her full coat of fur yet, she still has baby fur.

This looks perfectly normal to me, she’s reaching around so the fur will part a bit, it’s probably a bit more obvious on her because she’s black with pale skin.

Thank you! I think she does have a bit of dandruff, is there a way to help with that?

It’s not unusual for bunnies to have thinner fur on their neck, especially when they are young. What type of “dandruff” are we talking about here?

This shows more on bunnies that have a lot of fur round their neck, I asked the same question a few months back because Olly washes himself and I can really see it, its the same with some dogs, your second question, hmm dandruff? A soft cloth and cool water? Or ask a vet to make sure it isn’t Psoriasis or anything like that.

She did have it before but perhaps it was because of the condition she was in before I got her? The coat does look a lot better from last week, which looked dandruffy. Thank you for your help!

If the dandruff was because of poor diet, then it would make sense that it looks better now. After all, I’m sure she’s getting much better now that she’s with you.

I agree with the others, a little bit of dandruff that gets better is quite ok, but if there’s an increasing amount of dandruff + local hairloss, it can be a sign of fur mites. That doesn’t seem to be the case with your bun.

Thank you. They do itch their ears and cheeks a lot though, which I was told was due to dry air. Other than that, their coat looks good, and healthy. They also look like they’ve gotten fluffier, especially my lighter bunny. I appreciate your help, thank you.

Fur mites most often don’t cause itching unless it gets like really bad, but then you see extensive hairloss and lots of big flakes of dandruff, so that’s not what’s going on with your buns. If they didn’t get the best diet before that could’ve dried out their skin too. Fur often improves a lot with the right diet, both in fluffiness and shine. So glad they are with you now!

I think she (or he) should be good

No, I only saw a tiny little piece of fur but it was only once. The lady said she gave them fruit, and veggies but she probably didn’t feed them enough, so I think they’ve gotten better here. Thank you, I am glad they’re with me too. Both girls are well taken care of, and thank you for all the help! I’ll worry less now.
