        Hi guys,

I am thinking about changing from paper litter pellets to wood pellets. However, here in NZ the selection seems quite limited and I am not too sure if the brand I am looking at is suitable and safe.

This is the brand I am considering, I would appreciate if anyone could let me know if they’re ok to use.

        Thanks so much!

          Hi!

I personally would just stick to the paper pellets. Many wood based products contain aromatic oils that could be harmful to a rabbits delicate respiratory system.

          Hope this helps!

I just looked at the product. This product seems very safe and natural (from what I can tell) if you choose to go with wood. But pine is notorious for having a high density of previously mentioned aromatic oils. Very strong smell. Which smells nice ot us, but could be harmful to our precious buns!

Posted below is a great link that contains more specifics as to why not to use wood/pine based litters. It also contains a chart that compares the pros and cons of various types of litter.

It looks like those pellets would be find to use, since it says they have no additives. I assume that’s the same as saying that they have no accelerants.

Kiln dried pine products are safe to use. Phenols are only present in pine/cedar shavings or chips.
