        Hey everyone.

This is my first post to the forums.

I have a rescued Lionhead (single mane) female, who we’ve named Tinkerbell. She’s been living with my husband and I since January 2nd and has had one checkup about a month ago (All healthy!). Today, I took her in to get spayed. She is home now, and the doctor told me to start giving her the syringe medication tonight. She’s of course still a little off from the anesthesia, so she’s in her cage, but in a corner I can’t get to.. I built her a condo with the 14″x14″ cubes, and I blocked off the upper levels so she won’t strain or hurt herself jumping up and down them, but now she’s chilling under the first level and I can’t get to her. She isn’t responding to her treat bags like she used to, which I sort of figured would be the case within the first few hours, but how will I be able to get her out of that spot without making her mad or scared? Anyone have any advice? I’ve just left her alone for the last hour or so.

I’m a first time bunny owner. Never had any big pets before, only hamsters growing up. So any advice is helpful. I have learned all I know about caring for her from this forum and the howcast videos on youtube, and many articles about rabbits. Thank you!

        -Gab

She’s probably just sore and scared, I’d imagine she’ll likely come out in her own time, but if not you could reach behind her with something like a dustpan and just use it to gently push her butt forward so that she moves from the corner.

What medication are you to give? (Typically they are given a long acting shot of pain med before discharge, so you don’t have to bother them initially).

Does she have water close by? I noticed my 2 girls drank once I put the bowl right next to them. They really didn’t want to get up to come to it. Poor things.

{{{Healing}}} vibes for your little one.

ETA: You may have to resort to cutting a couple ties on the back corner grid and opening it like a door. Is that possible?

Here’s my update. She LOVED that I offered her banana, so I used it to try and lure her out of the cage. It worked, but she ran right back in. ( I had it on a towel ready to wrap her up in a bunny burrito, but she wasn’t having it) So, I gave her some arugula and dandelion greens, and a small piece of parsley and she ate those with no problems! I kinda left her alone a bit, and noticed if I left the room, she would try to venture out of the cage. Surprisingly, she did, and jumped up on her favorite chairs in her room. She seems fine, I was actually very surprised by it and a little worried. But she didn’t jump a whole lot thank goodness.
Anyway, after trying to get a hold of her, I finally got her to calm down in my arms, without a towel, and got the medication administered. =]

She’s taking Metacam Suspension. 0.35cc twice a day for about 3 to 4 days, and Metoclopramide Solution. 0.8cc three times a day for 2 to 3 days.

I really don’t want her jumping up on things yet, but I guess if she’s ok doing it, and if I can get her meds in that way, then it should be alright. The incisions are under her skin, so she doesn’t seem bothered by them. I’m just keeping her in the cage unless it’s med time so she can relax. She went right back to her dark corner and is snuggling with all the comfy towels and fleece blanket I laid down. She’s got water and hay and a few pellets available, but so far, as stated above, she’s only eaten the few things I hand fed her.
Oh and her stools are normal. The towels I have laid down are kinda dark, so it’s hard for me to see if her pee is good too.

Thank you guys, I was getting worried I wouldn’t be able to give her the meds, but I am so relieved I did! =D I love my bun. =]

Fantastic. She must have still been a bit groggy earlier.

Really good that she’s tried a bit of something to eat.

Yeah, I’m really happy she’s eating. =D She must have felt your healing vibes. Yay!
