Hi guys, I can’t find relevant info online so maybe you could help me~

I’ve got a male bunny Ken and he’s about 1yr10mo old.I know it’s best to spay a female bunny as there are potential risk of cancer. I read online that neutering a male bunny can eliminate its urge to mate and make it more calm and dependable.

Ken is pretty well behaved. He never sprayed anywhere. He only goes to his litter box. Never shows sign of mating urge: such as circling around me or aggressive behavior. Overall he’s pretty active but chill. So my question is that should I still neuter it?

I’ll probably do it in the future when I have a bigger place so that I can find a friend for him, but should i do it now?

It’s probably not necessary. It’s sounds like he’s well past the” teenage” phase where behaviours can be a challenge.

If you do decide to a female friend for him down the track, try get him desexed at least a month (2 would be better) in advance. The hormones will have exited his system and she will be less likely to detect them. It could help in their bond. Also, if female bun is mature and intact, he could still impregnate her 4-6 weeks post neuter.

Is that his baby pic as your avatar or how he is now?! Super, super cute!

I think it would be better to do now rather than later so when you do get him a friend in the future, its not too many changes all at once for him. Plus, you can make sure his hormones are completely gone by the time you get a second bun to make bonding much easier
