So today on instagram I saw a picture of an 11 year old bunny today. And it made me think how can one bunny live to be 11 and another only live to be 3 (and die without warning, with no signs) even though their owners are doing the exact same thing care wise.

Genetics probably has a lot to do with it. Dwarf breeds often live longer BUT they can also be more susceptible to some health issues. Things that might lead to a shortened life.
Have you come across Josephine of Bright Eyes Sanctuary? They think she is 18!

I have to agree about genetics playing a big part. Like JG was saying smaller buns often live longer than big buns, (like a chihuahua lives longer than a great dane). I also think that family history has a lot to do with health too. Like a heavily inbred rabbit might have more health issues than one who has a good family tree. Or if the mother was sickly, she could have passed something on to her young, vs a healthy mother.

It really all depends. All we can do is do our very best and love them with all out heart.

It is pretty crazy. A friend of my sister’s had her bunny since she was a very young child, and I can’t remember but he was either 16 or 18 when he passed away. Which is just amazing and crazy. And he was an outside bunn! Talk about good genetics.
