I have really bad general anxiety disorder and one of the ways it manifests is by worrying about my bunnies and thinking I have killed them by accident.
Recently I have been having a potentially unfounded panic about Caspers poop. Because of recent changes to our environment, he has stopped using his litter tray as much so I can’t poop monitor like normal! He is moulting a lot at the moment which always makes him grumpy and I’m brushing off the equivalent of another bunny every day! He eats some of the fur and gets string of pearls poop, and a couple of doubles I have found are all hairy. I groom him around three times a day or more if he asks me for it, to decrease the risk of eating too much hair.

Basically I am panicking and I’m not sure if I should be. But I do know that he is binkying, flopping, zooming, laughing, eating and investigating as per normal. So do sick bunnies still binky and zoom? If the answer is “generally no” I can relax a little, if it is yes I will start daily poop counts and plot a graph of the daily average to note any changes. (This has all happened before. And will happen again – just looking for a less time consuming and obsessive way to check he’s okay. I’m also worried that my worrying might upset him!)
Tuppy worries have their own threads because they are not poop related!

You might have to groom him more often if hes a big shedder. Is he neutered? If not, that will definitely help out with the abnormal pooping areas. If he is neutered, pooping where he shouldnt could be a sign of stress or territory. If hes still eating, drinking, and acting normal i wouldnt worry too much. It sounds like the hair could be causing him an upset tummy. I would start by grooming him more often and monitoring his poops and where hes pooping. If its still abnormal after a week or so of more grooming, i would take him to the vet just in case. A lot of rabbits dont show signs of being sick when they are actually sick

I wanted to add too that i have anxiety as well! We trained one of my bunnies to become my emotional support animal and got him certified a few months ago so now i can take him around with me in public. Its very nice having him around, and the training we did helped us get a lot closer. Now when im anxious around the house, he runs up to me and pokes me until i pet him. While out in public, he sits in a bunny sized purse with ice packs, hay, and greens, and if im nervous he will poke me so i pet him. It helps a lot more than it might sound. Hes also being trained to wake me up if i faint due to panic. If you have any questions or want to look into possibly training one of your babies, let me know. Id love to help if i can

Yes he’s neutered but territory makes sense in this instance. I’ll try to fit in some more grooming sessions every day and keep an eye out then.

Aww! Rabbits seem like great emotional support. I haven’t trained Casper but he does some incredible things that really help! He wakes me up by thumping and making this little squeak / grunt if I am ever having a nightmare. He does the same noise if I am having a bad head time and will sit on my chest and lick my face. When I fell asleep in the playpen by accident I woke up to find that Casper and Tuppence had covered me in bedding and hay. And Tuppence had done a little wee on me.
So I have a fairly good idea of just how helpful rabbits can be!! It’s really reassuring to find someone in a similar position who has also experienced the amazing care package you get as part of a warren!

I don’t think bunnies binky while sick, not that I’ve seen.

String of pearl poops are quite common to see a couple of times per day during a shed. Bandit was also a heavy shedder and I brushed him at least once or twice a day and would still get string of pearl poops. They are generally regarded as a positive thing because it means that the gut is working like it should. The poops are still the normal size, shape and correct distance apart so things are still moving along as they should.

When you see the double poops, it means that things have slowed down a bit and two poops have collided. They’re not a good thing to see but they’re also not particularly uncommon during shedding and I wouldn’t be worried about seeing one or two of these daily during a shed. In the grand scheme of things, a single double poop out of 300 poops in a day isn’t a big deal, especially if there’s still plenty of binkies and playing going on. If you’re seeing large numbers of double poops, a decrease in activity and appetite, then I would start to worry. But I think you’re fine

Sorry Fosterish, just jumping in here cos I think Mikeys emotional support bunny is a great idea. My 2 bunnies and 2 chihuahua’s have been a HUGE comfort to me, and even though I don’t suffer with a G.A.D., things would’ve been much different without them.

Loads more obvious poops today, but they are rather small. I know that Casper has always had small poops, but now I have Tuppence I’m realising just how little they are! Well formed, squishable and full of hay, but just really little! Do some bunnies just have small poop?
