I just woke up with bites on my face have and neck. After searching my bed I found a weird looking bug. I took a picture and then flushed it. After googling I think it was a bed bug!!!! I am freaking out and I’m so worried about my bunny. I’m calling my landlord first thing, but has anyone has experience with bedbugs/extermination and rabbits?

The whole house needs to be sprayed, but I’m so worried about my guy. Please help with any experience.

        Thank you.

That’s nasty, but it is as you know pretty common these days. The safety for your bun will depend on the method of extermination used. Nowadays some companies treat the apt with heat and silica powder, that’s of course non-toxic and you’d just have to evacuate for a day or so. But if they are using poison, you should ask the company about your bun’s safety. Could you board him with family or a friend?

The exterminators would know about small pets, because bedbugs have become so common and they must encounter homes with small pets all the time.

I really hate pesticides, but I use them for roaches (rarely see), and never in the bunny room. I hope they can treat with heat and then I’ll line the shared walls with the poison. I’ll keep it out of the bunny room for now. Hopefully if the whole building does it, that will get rid of them.

I’ll have to find a place to take him during treatment. I’m not really sure where, but I don’t have a choice. I’m so upset. And worried.

I didn’t find any others, but I feel sick just thinking about them. Ugh

Is there such thing as a bunny safe insecticide?

There are no really safe bunny insecticides that I know of, but diatomaceous earth (a form of silicaceous powder) is often used to dry out areas so the bugs dry out too. It shouldn’t be used in direct contact with the bunny, because it is a powder and the bunny must be prevented from breating it in or eating it, but it can be used on carpets and along baseboards and other places where bugs like to hide during the day. It’s not a deterrent though.

              Johnson&Johnson sells a hutch-spray, but I don’t know what it is exactly.

Thanks Bam! I’m going to look into the powders. If I can I want to keep it out of the bunny room. My boy is a licker, and I just can’t take the chance.

Uggghhhh this sucks! Last thing I needed. I guess things could be worse though.
