I got Emma a little over a month ago. I fell in love with her when I first saw her and when the associate let me hold her she snuggled into my neck like we were long lost lovers. I’ve since only grown to love her more and more. She’s the sweetest, most calm and laid back bunny I’ve even seen.

Yesterday I rescued a Netherland Dwarf (Bear) from a photographer who only wanted her as a prop. The photographer didn’t really have much to say about her temperament other than “she is sweet and she’s been handled a lot by small children so she’ll be ok with another bunny friend”. I have them in separate runs in two different rooms for now and the first day Bear was really good, way better than Emma’s first day. She hardly went into her hide and if she did it was to dig and then come right back out. She is definitely no scaredy bun like Emma was

So I get up this morning and the first thing I do every morning is bunny chores. I start with Emma’s run because I’ve got a bit of a cleaning ritual. No matter when I try to distract her with, Emma loves to ‘help’ me clean her pen. She’ll move around her bunny castle and toys out of my way. It’s actually really really cute. Then once I was done I went and started cleaning Bears pen. Now that I think about it, I maybe should have washed my hands of Emma smell? I do wear gloves and I did change then between buns but maybe that wasn’t enough. Anyways. I located the corner Bear claimed as her potty corner, made up a litter box and started putting her droppings and urine spots into it. As I was doing the transfer she thumped at me! She was pretty much on top of me the entire time I tried to tidy something up. I’m thinking from now on I’m going to have to fully remover her from the run to do this each morning…

It’s just so funny how different they are! I mean, I’m still learning Bear and her habits and quirks but this was a good start! I think maybe I got lucky with Emma, with how laid back she is.

Does anyone else have polar opposite buns? What are your learning curve stories?

Absolutely! They have different personalities just like us.

I have two pretty opposite bunnies. My lop boy, Bindi, is very laidback, easy going and loves to cuddle. His nickname is “the TeddyBear”. My girl, Olivia, is very high-stress, drama queen who will only let you pet her on her terms. She is so territorial and difficult that my buns have to remain unbonded.

I cannot stand, and don’t understand the habit of photographers buying bunnies just for Easter photo shoots, I’m sure there are many rabbit rescues who would love to see their rescue rabbits promoted in such a way. I’m so glad that you took in little Bear. Rabbit personalities are so distinct. Bandit never got grumpy when I was sweeping out his condo and moving things etc, but he always had to be involved with the process, haha.

I love learning bunny personalities! They’re all so cheeky and unique! Your Emma sounds like such a cutie and Bear sounds like a bundle of personality. I bet their individual quirks will work together and really keep you on your toes! (In a good way! )

I describe my two rabbits as “the big, gentle rugby player type” and “the mafia mum” because of their personalities. Casper is laid back like nothing I have every encountered and just goes with the flow. But he’s strong, and very protective over Tuppy and her little ones. Tuppy is rather more feisty. She’s the boss and she knows it! Still learning her personality quirks!

I got Tuppence 3 weeks ago and in that time she has taken over Casper’s space (and his heart), given birth to an unexpected litter, rearranged both rabbit cages, learnt her name and some simple commands and weed on my favourite pillow (not litter training until she’s been spayed and finished nursing).
I got Casper a year ago and in that time he litter trained himself and learnt the sound of the food box being opened.

I feel that this picture sums up the differences and how they compliment eachother perfectly. (Casper is the sleepy one who fell asleep halfway through grooming Tupps, and Tuppence is the gorgeous girly with the expression that says “he fell asleep again, didn’t he?”) I love them both more than anything.

We have 9 bunnies, so 9 personalities at play!
Roxie is high-strung and thumps a lot. Her mate, Caesar is lazy and laid back and is a big pushover.
Bruno is lazy and tolerant of cuddles. She’s always flopped out on her tummy. Her mate Harley is a little punk and over protective of Bru.
Butternut is very in your face friendly and will usually run up to you for pets everytime you walk in the room. Her mate, Backers, is a giant pansy and won’t let us touch him at all.
Zane just wants love, whether from us or another bunny. He’s very cuddly.
Annie is very high-strung and can be aggressive.
Hazel hates the cats and runs them out of her room, but she is friendly with us.

                      How adorable!

                      ——————————–

I used to have 2 rabbits (one of them is my little Biffle) and one of them (Sarah) was very outgoing and loved to have a nice run round, whereas, my little Biffle was so timid and very affectionate. Every time I walked into the room he would run over to me for some treats – hehe. Whenever I laid down next to him, he would come over and lick my forehead and my hands. Sarah hated getting picked up, but Biff (even though he wasn’t fond of it) would let you.

I loved them both the same though. <3

I’m learning that too! I had a childhood rabbit, Jessie, and now I have a rescue named, Monte.

Jessie hated everyone (except me). She bit and snarled.
Monte loves everyone and everyone has to pet her. She makes sure you have no choice.

Jessie always wanted to hang out with me. I would carry her around in the pocket of my hoodies.
Monte is very independent. Everything has to be her idea. And forget picking her up.

Jessie was not very food motivated. As long as she had hay, she was good.
Monte is spoiled rotten. She always wants broccoli, romaine, carrots, and kale. Plus she’ll do anything for banana.

Bunnies are so unique. It’s awesome.
