        Hi guy’s,
I found the following buggs running around, they come from the hay. They are about the size of a pin head. Very, very small. The attached picture is inlarged. Any idea what they are?
When I put the hay out the first time, I noticed the and put the rest in the freezer. After that the next time I put it out there were no buggs. But when I changed the hay again, I noticed that they were back. Should I keep the hay in the freezer and just take out what I need each time?

Oh just a note on the side I am a new bunny owner.

I would return the hay to the seller and get my money back. I would buy my hay somewhere else after that. There shouldn’t be a risk of bugs in any food.

I agree with RabbitPam, you shouldn’t have that risk.

Well, here’s the good news: it’s not an itch mite.

There is always going to be the possibility for finding a bug. Hay is grown outside, after all. You usually don’t see too many and they are normally dead. I think we’ve all found a dead grasshopper, for example.

I can’t tell how big the insects are from your picture and it’s difficult to make out the details. They could be lacewings. Is the hay “organic”? Lacewings are often used as biological pest controls. Maybe the hay that was harvested had some pupa in it and they emerged after you got it home?

I do occasionally find bugs that looks like ticks crawling around, short legs and brown in color.
