I have Loki, who is about a year and a half, and neutered. About 3 weeks ago I bought Freya.. and the pet store “says” she’s about 6 months. She is not spayed yet. They are caged next to each other, but have not yet actually met yet. Loki originally wanted to kill her threw her cage, but he’s toned down almost completely. She, on the other hand.. is such a brute with him. I’m thinking maybe it’s hormones. I’ve never had a female before though. I’m going to wait until she’s spayed before letting them meet. I’ve got a playpen and i’ll be putting them in a room they’ve both never been in before. I’m just wondering if anyone has any tips! I’m not gonna lie, i’m a little nervous after some things i’ve heard!

no two bonding will ever be identical, as no two bunnies are. Loki would have reacted to a strange bun on ‘his’ turf. Freya needs to be spayed, and well healed after. before trying any bonding. There are loads of good videos on bonding bunnies to be found online. watch them, and then decide which methods might work for you. be prepared to try different things.

I’m in the process of bonding a really feisty little madam, four days since she met her new ‘friend’ and she is sitting nicely beside him and has just given his ears a quick groom.

Loki toning down sounds promising she is full of teen age hormones, and teen age attitude. spaying might help with one, but not the other, but hopefully all will work out fine, and they will end up happily together.

Sounds like she is being territorial aggressive. She will probably calm down at least some after her spay but some bunnies, especially females, will always be territorial. But keep in mind that most bunnies are able to bond eventually, sometimes it just takes a longer time if there are a lot of territory issues.

You’ve just put a new bunny right in the middle of Loki’s territory, of course he’s mad about it and wants to get rid of her Her behaviour is probably both a reaction to his and hormones. For now, keep them side by side and do scent swapping of toys and litter boxes etc to get them used to sharing things with each other’s scent on them. You need to wait a month after Freya’s spay before introducing them, and make sure when you do, it is only a super quick session, a minute or two, tops, on neutral territory. You don’t have to let them interact in the first session, just have them next to each other and pet them continually for a minute or so and then end it. That way you can be guaranteed to end the first session on a positive note.

Yeah i’ll have to look up some videos! I’m a little confused as to when to split them up too… i’ve read that biting and stuff is “their way of communicating” but I get way too scared hahahaha I don’t want anyone getting hurt. It’s gotten to the point that Loki will sit outside of her cage and she’ll be scratching him and whatnot and he’ll just sit there looking at her like “what is YOUR problem?” hahaha poor bun. He just wants to see her. Which is a HUGE step because Loki is super feisty as well. He hates being touched really at all. So far him to sit there for awhile and do nothing, is vey promising! And is it true that they’ll start off by finding out who’s “boss” by mounting? I feel like between how aggressive they both can be.. that would go very very bad  I have faith though, I think eventually they’ll be alright! just have to be patient!

I’ve heard about swapping things but I was just waiting to make sure Freya wasn’t a male, because I didn’t know if maybe she’d start spraying if I did that. What about putting them in the others cage for a little? I read that online but I wasn’t sure how well that could go. (with how territorial they can be.) But I agree with that slightly because eventually i’d like them to be out at the same time together, and if one went for the others cage… I wouldn’t want it to cause fights.
