I rescued my bunny from basically a bunny mill. I had no idea that was where she was coming from until I showed up to get her, and I just couldn’t leave her there. She had no shelter and was kept outside in the elements and the other rabbits were just the same. No shelter from the winter storm. I first noticed she had a thick white discharge coming from her left nostril within a day of purchasing her.. I took her to my vet right the next day, and they did a nose swab (culture) and found the she had a bacterial infection know as snuffles. She has been on baytril drops for about a week know and has a week to go. My question is has anyone dealt with this and does this stick with them for the rest of their lives? I currently have one other rabbit and have been keeping them in separate areas. How contagious is this? What precautions should I take etc? Because she is on antibiotics I have gotten her bene bac plus for rabbits and have put it in her water. Is that ok? To put it in her water. Any information on this disease would be helpful.
        Thanks,
        Devin

P.S I would of adopted but there are no rescues in WY (USA) where I live. She is also having soft stools, what should I do for that?

It’s generally considered that most rabbits have been exposed to “snuffles” at some point usually early on in their life as it is highly contagious, however not all rabbits will actually suffer from the condition and show symptoms. What usually happens is that you treat it and it goes away, but the bacteria remains and at some point if your rabbit is sick, or stressed from another situation, the condition will reappear.

I’m not sure in regards to the treatments. Check out this page for some basics on snuffles: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=18+1803&aid=2686
