Hello Everyone, recently Estebun has been shedding a crazy amount. So much so that he is getting a bald strip down his back. Is this normal? It has been getting warmer but we also introduced him to his new roommate, Ruby, about a week and a half ago. Could it be stress related? The introduction was a little rocky but I believe they worked it out pretty quickly. They did have a small fight on the first day. No blood but hair was pulled out by both of them however he has lost a lot more since then. This is my first time having rabbits as animal companions. Any input would be much appreciated.

Bunnies can get bald spots during a normal shed. But it’s also true that stress makes bunnies (and dogs too) shed hair, although generally not in big chunks. And then there’s been hair-pulling between your buns, so he has three good reasons to shed hair (warmer season, bonding-stress and a new girl-friend who’s perhaps a little nippy).

As long as his skin is fine this isn’t worrisome. But if you see abnormal redness, sores, dandruff/skin-flakes, crusts etc, you should look into it further, in case he’s being bullied or has a skin parasite.
