I’ve heard that bunnies need hidey holes to use when they need some privacy, but my bunny doesn’t use it at all! Is that normal??

Rabbits like to have 2 openings in their hidey boxes. Otherwise, they feel trapped, and a prey animal doesn’t like to feel trapped. Does your hidey hole only have one opening? If it does have 2 openings, then I’m not sure why your bunny doesn’t use it. Does he seem frightened by it, like he goes up to it then runs off? Maybe you could try putting a treat in it and see if that makes it more welcoming to him. Is it possible that he does use it, but it’s at night or when you aren’t around?

Another option is to get a tunnel! There are a few on the BinkyBunny store (the tunnel haven is a favorite at my house!) or you can build your own!

Sometimes the bun doesn’t use it’s hidey-box but it knows it can, so to speak. Having a hiding-spot available can make a bun feel more confident.

That your bun doesn’t use his hidey box is normal. He feels safe, that’s great.
A tunnel can still be very much appreciated. My buns take de-tours just to run in their tunnels when they are moving around. Best way from point A to point B is through a tunnel even if it makes the distance longer, they seem to think.

It only has one opening, so I’ll cut out another one and see how that works. Thanks for the suggestion!

I was thinking, my bunny has free reign all over the house all day. He loves going under the couch and behind the couch to sleep. Perhaps that substitutes as a hidey hole?

Most likely. Any little hidden area where they feel safe is good. My buns have favorite hidey spots when they are out in the living room.

I think an additional hole in the will be great, they hate feeling trapped. He obviously has “natural” hiding-spots in your house, so he’s probably very happy
