        Hi all

Since Sunday my rabbit is treated for gi statis. he gets drugs for pain, Motility, antibiotics and alot of fluids.also force feedind. sometimes his feces looks like diarrhea and sometimes small and dry.

How long can it take untill any improvment is seen?

        Any special advice?

        Thanks.

Improvement should be seen rather soon, 24-48 hours. Full recovery can take a lot longer though, like a month. The fact that there is poop is great, the intestines are moving. The poop can look abnormal for quite some time after and it’s still a good sign, so what’s important is that he gets his appetite back and regain his energy.

It’s good if he can move around a little bit, it helps the intestines do their work. It would be really good if you could get some pain-meds for him (Metacam), stomach trouble is often painful for a bunny and a bunny who is in pain very often won’t eat. It’s really important now that he starts eating.

Ta,all info is good as I’ve never helped Bunny through stasis b4.I actually think she was pretending to eat hay, making me even more clueless that Stasis was creeping up. Was just the day b4, her vet check up!little poos were the tell-tale sign.Though after the architectural adjustments to a carboard box,I,d seen little hard dry ones b4.Then returned to her normal (cherry stone, size)poops.Appetite 4hay not at full pelt yet.Pelt ?sounds horrid.English expression for fullcapacity

Thanx!! there has been a small improvment. he started to eat by himself, lettuce and cale and little bit of alfalfa hay. the poop is sometimes big and sticky and sometimes dry and tiny. this disease is exhausting..

It is an exhausting condition, I totally agree. That he’s eating by himself is great. It’s normal to see poop-irregularities for quite some time after a bout of stasis. The tummy needs time to recover. I hope you’ll soon see nice round poop. Keep monitoring him. If you can get him to eat grass hay in addition to what he’s already eating, that’s best thing of all to make a bunny tum right again.

Hi ponpon. it could be the medication making his poop odd for the time being also. Or combination of that plus the gut recovering. What sort of food are you using to feed him? {{{Vibes}}} for you bunny.

                    Hi LullyLullybunbuns

I’ve had some of mine have gut problems after ingesting too much cardboard also. It’s sort of a cheats way of them getting easy fibre but it’s not the ideal type of fibre and can cause problems for them. Does your rabbit eat the cardboard? Does she normally have a good appetite for hay?

                    {{{Vibes}}} for Bunny.

He is much better but refuses to eat pellets. eats lots of oatmeal hay and vegetbles (lettuce, Parsley, celery). any idea how to make him go back to pellets? and one more question : today I noticed his urine was a bit red. yesterday I gave him for the first time red lettuce, can this be the cause?
Thanx all for the good vibes!!!

Bunny pee can come in lots of colors and still be perfectly normal. Dandelion greens is another example that gives bunny pee a very red color. It can look startling but it’s just from the carotene in the plants.
Pellets is often the last food-item a bun that’s been in stasis starts to eat. Oat hay and vegs are great and quite sufficient for now.
