The bunny I am potentially adopting this Saturday is said to be a terrible chewer. His owner told me that he will chew anything that touches his cage, and will chew carpet. My floor is fully carpeted and I was hoping to have him on the same fleece set-up that Harlow is. Could this be because he’s in such a small cage?

He’s almost a year old right now and neutered, so I’m hoping this behavior can be corrected while they’re in the process of being bonded together. I really didn’t wan’t to buy tiles for her cage and have already spent a lot of money on all the different fleece blankets used on the floor right now. Harlow isn’t a chewer, so i’ve been doing fine with a water resistant sheet on the floor, fleece taped onto that, and her cage on top holding it all down and in place. From the sound of this, it wont be possible for this bunny right now. Could it be in the future?

Blue has chewed a hole in our carpet about the size of a quarter. The one trick ive found that works to stop him is to crinkle his treat bag and then give him one of his twig ball chew toys. I would say that works for him 99% of the time

I had to replace a few items when I got my second rabbit, and she’s a chewer, moreso than my first.

Rabbits get destructive when bored, so that may be what your future bunny is experiencing now, and if he’s in a small cage and doesn’t get exercise – yes, he’s probably chewing out of frustration.

You never know how things will be till you actually spend time with the bunny. I put rabbit-safe wooden toys, willow/ seagrass mats, or cardboard/ hay in areas where my rabbits like to chew. As for the flooring, you may have to change it, but I wouldn’t stress too much till you know what you’re dealing with.

Try sprinkling a bit of black pepper where he likes to chew the carpet.
