My 1.5 year old rabbits coconut and blackberry hasn’t been so active lately. We are in Australia. When we got them in spring they wanted to come to the lounge everyday every moment. We had to use treat to ask them go back into the laundry. But now it is supposed to be Autumn, it has been very hot for the past few days, about 30-39. So we have the air con on a lot, hoping that will make the house cooler so they can come and enjoy it with us in the lounge. However, they have been lying on the floor a lot and even when they are out they will not go to the air con area, no more binky as well( is my air con smelly lol). Will house rabbits become less active in hot weather ? Thanks

Bunnies don’t tolerate heat well. It’s normal for them to not be very active when it’s hot. Wild rabbits stays underground in their warrens during really hot days. The domestic rabbits we keep as pets are European to their origin, and Europe never gets the types of temps that you get in Australia.

You can give your buns frozen plastic bottles of water to snuggle up to. Here are some cooling tips:

Give them water in bowls if you normally use bottles for them, water in a bowl is easier to access and they need to drink more when it’s hot. You can also serve them their daily greens wet to get them to consume more water.
