        Hi all,

I have had a search through the archives and can’t find an answer for this particular query.

We’ve had our bun Theodore for 2 months now and have decided to get him pet insurance. In the UK we only have 5 providers to chose from and we’ve decided to go for PetPlan which provides a max of £2000 per year in vet fees and £750 for complementary treatments which includes hydrotherapy, physio etc.

This is all fine except this doesn’t sound like a lot to me in the case where our Theo became very sick or injured e.g. a broken leg or something – especially when cats for example can be insured for up to like £15,000 per year.

Pet insurance is new to me – and I have no idea on how much illnesses etc are likely to cost so I have no idea if this insurance is comprehensive enough, although it is the most comprehensive I could find.

Does anyone have any advice/tips they could offer me? Money’s not super tight but I don’t ever want to be in a situation where Theo needs veterinary help and I would be financially unable to help him.

        Thanks in advance

I will try to dig out my documents but I’m sure bramble and ron are insured for a bit more than that. I wanted to go with petplan but because bramble had been to the vet with his tummy troubles they wouldn’t insure him for gi issues which are the most common thing we are likely to be at the vet for, even though bramble at the time received no treatment or diagnosis. so I went with pets at home who cover everything other than dental

Kirstyol – the only plan I could see offered for Pets at Home who had a limit of £1500 for vet fees and up to £350 for dental illness or something like that?

They have maybe changed their cover amounts. I will try and find my stuff anyway to check but I am sure mine are insured for 3000, unless of course I am thinking about the combined total for both buns.

The benefit of petplan is they pay the vet direct whereas I would need to pay and claim it back.
