I have a 10 month old rabbit who I THINK is a dwarf rex rabbit. He’s my first ever rabbit, and this is my first ever post!

Anyways, I got him when he was 3 months. I noticed that whenever he was happy or excited, he would begin to wheeze. It’s rather quiet, so I couldn’t capture it on video. It sounds a bit like “Hmr, hmr, hmr” or “Hrr, hrr, hrr”. He does do it voluntarily.

I can’t figure out why he does it. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does he do anything while making those noises? It kind of sounds like he might be chattering, which is a rabbits version of purring

He’s usually running happily towards me. Like right now, he’s in the basement (which is a real treat, because he likes to explore new places and he doesn’t get to come down often) and he’s binkying, running around, and being a generally happy bunny. The only difference is that he’s wheezing!

He wheezes quite often. He’s happy, fine with life, so he lets out a couple of wheezes. He’s REALLY happy, running in circles around my feet, and he’s wheezing up a storm!

I think I know what you are describing. My Bindi sometimes does what sounds like a mix of hrm hrm hrm and a buzzing sound. He does this when he’s excited for treats or right before he “gets friendly” with a stuffed animal. (He’s neutered but still does this occasionally).

How does his nose look? If his nose isnt wet or any shade of green, then i have to agree that he might be buzzing or chattering. If you are concerned for his breathing though, going to the vet cant hurt

Yes, my bunny does wheeze when he’s doing that to my feet. He’s not neutered so… he does like to hug my feet often.

I’m glad my bunny isn’t the only one who makes a strange sound!

His nose is fine, I think, It’s pink and not wet. When I feel his nose, I can’t tell if it comes back a bit wet becaus I touched the inside of his mouth or his nose is wet…
