Although I’m not the best gardener (in any way), we’re still doing one. We’ll be doing raised beds since our ground is SOOOOO wet and clay-ey, so it’s terrible for growing. Anyways, we’ve already started some of our seeds, so by the time it’s warm enough they’ll be strong enough to go outside. We are growing them in home-made “mini greenhouses”. Here’s how we do them:

We take paper cups and fill them with dirt and seed and then we water them. Then you cover them will clear plastic wrap (generally in the baking isle or ziplock bag isle). Voila, a mini greenhouse! Then, if you buy salad mixes in those plastic containers with the thin plastic on top you can peel back, you just fill those with some dirt, plant your seeds and keep them moist. Keeping them in containers like these keep them moist for longer, warmer, ect.

Anyway, what are you planning on growing? Anything for the buns? Any tips and tricks we can share? Let’s talk garden.

So far we are started tomatoes, eggplants, cilantro, lettuce, pumpkins. (maybe a few other things, it’s hard to remember)

We’ll also be planting Carrots, Corn, Cucumbers, Squash, Zucchini beans and peas and spinach and a few other things soon.

We planted onions, carrots, broccoli, eggplant and peas. But, the eggplant died (dunno why). The onions are coming up already, the peas are sprouting. My mom also planted tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.

I’ve sowed tomatoes and physalis and chili. The rest must wait until April, zucchini and beans until May.

For the buns I’d like to grow kale and fennel, dill and lots of different lettuces. But I don’t know what type of garden slug-situation we’ll have this year, that sort of determines if we get anything at all.

Sounds lovely everybody. Oh, we also have cabbage and brussel sprouts started as well. I’d like to grow some Kale, spinach and basil for Moxie. The Cilantro and lettuce that I’ve started are for Moxie. We’ll grow some more lettuce later on for ourselves.

Kale is a great plant for cold climates because it has no problem coping with below zero temp. Sadly garden slugs love kale, last year they ate all of it. But I’m hoping for fewer slugs this year
I’ll sow nasturtiums and runner beans for the buns in May.

Bam– I feel ya on the slugs! Our property has a flooding issue, so we have SOOOO many slugs! You could honestly sit out there for 10 minutes and collect 100+ slugs in a bucket. It’s crazy! We lost pretty much our entire garden to slugs last year.
A little tip is to do a layer of sand around your plants.

                    Great topic and comon problem.
The slugs eat everything I planted last year. For now I’ve only planted some mint but hope to get some ideas and advices here.

The only thing that survived last year so and so was basil.
