Hi Everyone, my bunny Mowgli ate some of his blanket last week and he is currently in the process of molting.
I spoke to the vet when it happened and they told me to keep an eye out for him not eating or not leaving droppings.
He has been acting completely normal and is leaving plenty of droppings. The problem is his poos are misshapen, oval shaped and/or strung together like a string of pearls.
I’ve removed his pellets and am feeding him wet leafy vegetables and lots of hay. I’ve also been giving him small doses of smethicone. I’ve attached some pictures for your reference. I’ve also called the vet twice and haven’t heard back. Can you please let me know if you think this is the blanket and hair passing through his system or is this the beginning of gi statis? I’m really worried! Thank you

With my bunnies especially George misshapen droppings are pretty common and the droppings strung together are pretty common. In fact I think the hair in the droppings is considered a good thing because it is moving through them.

Are the droppings the normal size?
It is when the dropping get much smaller and the bunnies are not eating, especially not eating treats are the signs I look for.
You said he is eating normally which is great.

If you are concern about hair intake you can brush him. Giving him lots of hay is great they need the fiber when molting.

If it’s been a week since he ate the blanket, it will have already passed through. String of pearl poops are pretty common with shedding bunnies and are generally considered ok because it means that the gut is still moving well with the spacing between the poop. When you see two poops clumped together it means the gut has slowed down a bit. During shedding it’s not uncommon to see one or two clumped poops a day, but if you’re seeing quite a number of them it could be the sign of the start of stasis. But for now it sounds like it’s alright, just brush regularly to keep hair ingestion to a minimum.

Totally agree with the others. Can’t see your pics though. You upload pics by editing your post, clicking on “attachments” at the bottom of the page, click upload, upload your pic and click “insert image”. This will only work if the pic is less than 500 kb though. if it’s bigger you need to shrink it first or you can upload to tinypics, Photobucket, imgur, google drive etc and paste the link into your post.
