Chomondeley has been nipping me lately. Mostly on the feet and toes, but sometimes on the hands and knuckles. Usually, it doesn’t hurt, it’s just slightly irritating- but today it actually hurt. I’ve tried squeaking and clapping loudly, but nothing stops him… could it be him getting older and getting hormonal? Or is it just aggression? Help please! Thank you!

Are you wearing shoes or socks? Our bunnies never biter skin but they don’t know your skin is under the socks. Wear socks you will get nipped. As for your hands if the bunny lunges, thumps and grunts he is upset about something.

If he does not lunge or thump but just nips it sounds like he plays rough and does not know it. Animals can hurt you unintentionally when they are playing and don’t know boundaries.

You could try a air horn…can of compressed air that makes a loud noise.

If you have ever really been bitten by an animal you will realize nips are not bites. A real animal bite feels like someone burning your skin with a torch.

Young bunnies do tend to nip. This absolutely doesn’t sound like aggression. You’d know it if he was being aggressive. An angry bun charges, ears back, and will often box you too and perhaps growl. It’s rather unmistakable.

It can absolutely be a form of courtship. My Bam nipped my dog before he was neutered. She didn’t enjoy it, but she’s a sweet dog so she just yelped, it was pitiful to hear =/ He was relentless though. Would not leave her alone. It stopped after his neuter.

Thank you guys! Drwil, he is not actually biting me, just a brief nip. It doesn’t seem to matter if I’m wearing shoes or socks, but he nips my feet anyways. It doesn’t seem like aggression… he just hops up to me. I “eek,” but it doesn’t seem to matter.

I suppose I’ll just wear two layers of socks and keep on “eeking!” I really don’t mind, it just is irritating at times.
