My daughter got a rabbit for Christmas. It seems to be very laid back and lazy. It really only moves around to eat and drink otherwise it is just resting. Does he need a cage mate? Do rabbits do better in pairs?

As long as they get plenty of interaction with the family, they don’t really need a companion.

How old is the rabbit? Does he get time out of the cage?

Rabbits do tend to sleep a lot through out the day. They can sleep with eyes open, so when he’s just sitting there & breathing evenly, he might actually be asleep!

They’ll have times (usually in morning and evening) that they’ll become more active. If you can, let him have time out if the cage then.

If you do decide to get a 2nd rabbit, be sure to have the first desexed and consider adopting an already desexed companion.

Also, if you’re brand new to rabbit ownership, I recommend reading:
            http://www.rabbit.org/care/new-bunny-index.html
            rabbit.org is a great resource.

            Also; language.rabbitspeak.com
is a fun guide for better understanding them.

            HTH.
