        Help!
So I had my two five month old girls in for spay surgery two days ago, Delilah is doing great aside from the fact she HATES getting her medicine ?
But Olivia (my broken cutie) has passed very few stools. She’s eating but not interested in her water for some reason. She’s always a good water drinker! If she doesn’t go potty soon I will take her back to the vet, but was hoping someone out here has any advice or encouragement, maybe your buns went thru the same thing? Is there light at the end of this tunnel?? Lol
Side note, she doesn’t seem to be in much pain, but I’ve seen very little urine pass from her as well.

Thanks in advance! First time asking a question here!

If she hates the metacam ? Usual post spay medication, try scoring a small piece of banana or apple and dropping it on that to absorb it. I can’t speak to the water or poop issues. Hopefully someone else can contribute on that

It’s important that she eats and drinks, if she doesn’t drink, the food in her tummy can form lumps that won’t pass through. Sometimes when you get their pain meds in them they will start eating when the pain med takes effect.

Will she eat yummy stuff like banana and apple, wet leafy greens? Whatever she eats now is great, because she needs to get things moving. Do you have Critical Care? If not, you can make a mash of pellets and f ex plain canned pumpkin or baby fruit puree and offer it on a plate or a spoon. If she won’t eat it on her own, you will have to syringe her food. You can use pellet slurry, that way she’ll get both water + food.

There are meds that can make a slow gut start up again. You should ask your vet about that if she hasn’t pottied like a good girl by tomorrow.

Very wet greens might help? I had to break the leaves into really small pieces post spay last year, which made it easier for a sore bunny to eat.

                Thank you all for responding!
I have been giving her some banana and wet parsley. Just not sure why she isn’t drinking from her bowl?

I’ll ask my vet about the meds to get the gut moving, thanks!

Any more suggestions for getting water in her would be great, I marked her bowl so I can monitor if she’s drinking while I’m not looking lol. So far it’s the same.

Some bunnies will drink more if you pour a bit of apple juice in the water. Long term that’s not good of course but this is a special situation. Some buns will drink cold chamomile tea (herbal, no actual tea in it). Some buns will however refuse to have anything to do with water that has sth added to it, so you should provide plain water as well.
There are several gut motility drugs, cisapride and Zantac and metoclopramide are often used with buns, sometimes in combo.

I’m happy to report Olivia’s litterbox was full of bunny butt pellets this morning! Lol.
Thank you all for your great advice!
Now they’re getting stir crazy and wanna come out to play ?
Chamomile is a great idea too, I think I’ll try that until she’s back to 100%, her stool is dry, so I know she isn’t getting enough water still.

Thank you, I was so worried ? it’s so sad to see bunnies not feeling good.
And I’ve been mixing their medicine with bananas and pellet mash and it works great! This is the first time I’ve ever given them fruit, so now they’re even more spoiled and come to expect it haha
