Hello All. We’ve lived with cats for years, but we’re only six months into bunnydom. Some mean human dumped Coco at our duplex last summer, and she lived / hid under the shed for several weeks before we were finally able to catch her and bring her home. By her size at the time we think it’s likely someone though it would be “cute” to buy an Easter bunny, then threw her away like garbage when the care and expense were no longer so cute. I say “her”, but I don’t actually know this bunny’s gender. We live in northern Michigan with NO vet willing or able to see her – the closest one is over a hundred miles away. But she is an Only Bunny, so no danger of an unintended litter.
So: when we finally caught Cocobun she was a rack of bones. Our duplex is surrounded by field and forest but probably having been a bowl-fed caged rabbit she evidently had no idea how to forage for food. The tops of her ears and crown of her head were hairless and bleeding because of rubbing on the low rough underside of the shed. Also, we suspect that she had been abused or handled roughly because she was terrified of being touched or even approached for several weeks.
She now loves being loved, but only on the floor, never ever held. I hunker down beside her and coo, and kiss her from the tip of her nose to her floppy ears until she falls asleep. It’s pretty sweet. 
Cocobun’s primary diet is free-fed timothy hay and water, and a bowl of Earthbound Organics Spring Mix morning and evening. Slightly spoiled Bun…
Occasional chunk of carrot earns us a binky – so darned cute! She has grown – probably now her adult size? And put on a lot of weight from her starving starting point. I thought her head and ears would be scarred, but the fur has finally grown back. She is shiny and softy and sparkly and seems the picture of health. She lives in our dayroom – I built a 10×12 enclosure out of a large size dog crate (so she has somewhere to hide) and the big sturdy metal screens from when I had my windows replaced. So even though she is enclosed she has full view of the room and our comings and goings. The space is carpeted, and I put a layer of towels over the whole area for ease of clean-up. She is litter-trained, God bless her! She taught me the corner she wanted to use for her “business”; I cut a huge Rubbermaid storage box down so the back corner (where she pees and poops) is four inches high to contain the mess, but only two inches at the sides and front so she can easily hop in and out. Water and hay are placed at the front, so she can eat and drink and pee and poo in place to her heart’s content. The cats are kept out of that part of the house. They are all elderly and probably wouldn’t hurt her, but I’m not chancing it. Besides, she is afraid of them and thumps madly if one gets into the dayroom.
This has certainly been a learning process… I have some behavior questions, but I will post those elsewhere. Her personality is curious, independent, a little naughty, sometimes silly.
