Somethings been worrying me. My bunny loves raisin I mean LOVES them. The vet didn’t say anything bad about me feeding my bunny raisins, then again I want to switch vets lol… But this lady who’s a rabbit rescuer for 40+yrs said absolutely NO RAISINS OR GRAPES they can get stuck in the intestines! So now I’m torn. Raisins are his absolute favorite treat, he gets mad if he doesn’t get them lol. But I’d never want to hurt him! Has anyone heard anything from a reputable source? Or better yet, experience with giving a rabbit raisins long term? I’d love to hear! I’d also love to hear your opinions on how many raisins a day/week y’all think is the “right amount.” Thank you!!

I don’t know of the validity of them becoming stuck in the intestines but they ARE high in sugar. A raisin is a dried grape I have fed mine the odd raisin like 2 each in the last year. Not my choice for a treat.

Yeah – I wouldn’t believe that they could get stuck in the intestines. They would be digested and lose their raisin form and not get stuck, but pass unidentifieably. A raisin contains as much sugar as 1 grape, because it is 1 grape. Because raisins are small, it is easy to underestimate the amount of suger in that tiny raisin, and feed a whole bunch of raisins, which is more like – a bunch of grapes. 1 ounce of fruit includes their liquid weight. So an ounce of raisins is waaay more than an ounce of grapes in sugar content.

Raisins aren’t “bad”. They are just fine as treats. But there is a such thing as giving too much. Raisins are high in sugar, as the others have pointed out. Eating too much sugary stuff can cause digestive issues and disrupt gut flora.

Ok, thank you all so much! That really helps! And I’m sure I’ll get different opinions on this which is totally fine but what’s your opinion on amount? Is 2 a day too much? Is 2 a week better or can I do more? Or what do y’all think? (2 is just a number im throwing out there) I’d love to hear your opinions! Thank you!

I put raisins in my cat ball treat and Zou goes bananas for it – she pushes it around until they are ALL out…
2 would not keep her happy but then she’s a megarabbit.
You could teach her tricks for them them shes running around too. A bit like humans when they go for a jog then eat a mars bar afterwards !!!! LOL
You could always cut them in 2 or 4 so it seems as if shes getting more, rather than giving one whole one at a time !!

1 or 2 per day is probably fine for a “normal” sized rabbit (Vienna’s bunny is HUGE, LOL). I give mine a slice of dried banana each day. They are naners for their naners.

Lol, ok, thank you! Yea, Zorro is a little guy and loves raisins like an addict lol. And I already started breaking them in half, good idea! I feel like I’m going to have to wing him down lol. He gets some for lunch and dinner. And he gets mad if he only gets 2, lol, I know he doesn’t know what’s best for him, so he’s just going to be mad lol. I’ve already stated cutting back. Thanks you guys!!

Just remember to think in terms of “how many grapes would I give my bunny a day”. That equates to the number of raisins.

Yes, we give Frankie and Cash (about 7.5 and 5 lbs respectively) two raisins at night before, us humans, go to bed. They definitely go crazy for them because they are packed with natural sugar, so you have to limit the amount you give them.

The word “Normal” (even if you do try to put speech marks around the word) is all relative young lady !!!!

My bun is VERY “normal”, thank you very much. ( ;p )
Have you ever thought yours may just happen to be on the “small” side…….hmmmmm?? (see speech marks don’t make any difference do they!!)

( I’m just off to give Zou a big hug (and 2 raisins! LOL) and to tell her not to worry about nasty BB family member saying she’s not “normal”…… sniff sniff hurumph!! )

                            :o)))))))) LOL LOL LOL

LOL Vienna! Well, not that I think about it, my bunnies do seem unusually small.

She weighs 6 kg – which is 13.2 lbs, which is 6 bags of european sugar !!!! Or a 6 pack of 1litre bottles of water !!

(I think her head weighs 3.2lb and her bum makes up the other 10lbs !! LOL)

Each of our buns may not be “normal” (I dislike that word), but they are ALL perfect !!

Hmmmm, yes, I hadn’t researched the breed before I got her !!!!! LOL (my cat weighs half at 3 kg…)
I do always think my friends’ 2 mini lops are tiddly, tiny and soooo featherweight compared to Zou…

But I had a ‘meat’ rabbit before who was about the same size so I guess you get used to what you get used to !!

You can’t really make any rabbit do what he/she doesn’t want to do, but it’s magnified hundredfold when your rabbit is a big’un !!
When she doesn’t want to, she WON’T !!! LOL

My bunny also likes raisin very much! I give her 2-3 a day for the past half a year and she fills good and healthy. I don’t think there is smth dangerous in raising if you take it by a few.

I absolutely adore cats and dogs and bunnies, but even I (the DOG lover) think that baby bunnies are the cutest of the three !!
They maybe tie in first place with the cuteness of puppies, but there’s not much in it – look at Centri’s photo !!
                                            Lovely !!!
