I have a mini lop who is turning 1 next month, and he’s always slept through the night when I’m sleeping and got up when I have since I’ve had him, but for the last few nights he’s been waking up at 2am and 5am chewing on everything he can find, I have a black out blind and nobody’s moving in the house. It’s not that he needs more room as he has a huge homemade pen which takes up a lot of my room, is there anyone who knows what’s waking him up or if there’s a way to stop him? He always has food through the night as well as straw?

My pair are in my room and do this sometimes, they are about 18 months old. When they were younger it was more frequent.

Rabbits are crepuscular which means their natural cycle is to be awake at dawn and dusk, so he may actually be awake more than you realise but he’s started to chew? My two only chew loudly (on their hutch which they’re locked in at night) to say “let me out” or “I’m hungry”. I always ignore them till they stop because I don’t negotiate with terrorists. Once they’ve stopped for a few minutes I’ll open the hutch or give them some pellets. They always have chew toys and hay as well, so in my case I can only guess it’s they didn’t get enough exercise that day or their body clock just doesn’t care how dark or quiet it is.

Do you think I should just let him have a good run around before bed?

I always give our bunnies a good run around first thing in the morning and last thing at night!

Yah me too. My bunny zooms around early morning 6-7ish binkies galore and at night after work and dinner around 5:30ish-9ish she’s super active. I do hear her chewing and playing with toys around 1am again though but then she goes back to sleep. She is almost always ready to go when she first sees me in the mornings though. It’s like she has all this pent up energy. And…. this…. —> “I always ignore them till they stop because I don’t negotiate with terrorists.” LOL I try to be strong like you but my bunny does not give up… I end up caving and letting her get her way. I should really stop, huh lol

Well in honesty I don’t want them to associate that behaviour with being rewarded. But also I am extremely grumpy when being woken up and have been known to shout SHUT UP YOU STUPID ****S! Which doesn’t work by the way. Bunnies are evil. I LOVE THEM.
