I feed my rabbit mixed spring greens most of the time (like the baby greens for salad, a handful twice a day), and then switch it up with kale or herbs like parsley, cilantro, mint, etc a few times a week.  Does this sound like a good diet?  (This is in addition to hay and pellets).    I’m just wondering what others do…

do you mix up each meal with different greens all in the same meal?

do you always use the same type of green?  (like they eat the same thing every day)

do you mix it up with lots of different ones daily or weekly?  (like either something different every day, or for example, one week they eat kale, the next week something else?)

do you have one type of green you use as your base and supplement with others?  If so, what?

        Thanks!

The HRS suggests feeding leafy greens. Like you said, parsley, cilantro, and mint are a couple of them. I used to give Cinny a cup of leafy greens a day with a little treat, like a small slice of banana or a baby carrot. I used romaine lettuce as the base for the “salad.” I didn’t use the same type of green, I threw in some different ones depending on what I was cooking that day.

Are there any greens that are harmful to rabbits?

Romaine, kale, parsley, cilantro … those are the only ones available year round here.

I give my bunnies anything from 5-20 types of greens a day, depending on the season, and how busy I am. I grow some and buy some. I grow most in summer. In winter a grow a few varieties indoors. I give my bunnies anything green – except chili peppers, green beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, iceberg lettuce, avocado, and asparagus. They get all other green veggies, leafy veggies, cucumber, bell peppers, cabbages, and herbs. I dont give my bunnies fruit or carots. Lancelot has a sensitive belly, and he would smell if I brought fruit/carrots to the other bunnies.

My buns always get Romaine Lettuce and at least 2 other green veggies daily. I rotate with dandelion, collards, kale, carrot tops, parsley, cilantro, arugula and bok choy. Sometimes I buy Mint and Endive when I can find it.
