After being neutered Hopsicle had been very good with litterbox habits, until now. All of a sudden he decided that the couch is his new litterbox. It started with a few pellets of poop here and there now he jumps on the couch to do all his business and pee as well. How can I stop this?? I use an odor neutralizing cleaner but I suspect he “marked” it, and can smell the previous poop/pee. Would covering the couch in a different scent, like perfume discourage him?

What kind of couch do you have-is it fabric? They often like to pee on soft things-like beds and couches. The solution usually is to not allow them up-you could use cubes to block it or I’ve heard of people using a shower curtain (they don’t like the feel-and if they do pee, it’s protected)

Yes, the couch is fabric. Our previous couch was too and he never did his business on it though. This is a new found habit. We blocked the couch off with tall pillows yesterday and he jumped all the way to the top and as soon as he was on it he peed… Little monster. Right now he is not allowed to be out of his cage when we are not in the room because I simply can’t trust him. Which is not good because he needs all the exercise he van get to stimulate his gut.

I will be looking into the shower curtain solution.
