Hi there, my rabbit used to be super picky and only eat Kale(which I know is high in calcium), but she now eats a variety or greens and vegetables. Recently, her urine is thicker and yellow from time to time, and I’m worried it is bladder sludge. It doesn’t happen every single day, but I was just wondering if it’s normal for rabbits to have thicker yellow residue (once dry ) from time to time , because I’m super worried.

        Thank you!

Hi usually when it is the bladder sludge it is brown or on the darker side of brown but if you are that worried about i would suggest you bring your bunny to the vet because you never know with these thing what is going to happen. also bladder sludge usually has like a sand substance in the pee so if you see that then bring you bun bun to the vet because it might have bladder sludge !

Here are good pictures, compare your bun’s pee to them: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Uro_gen_diseases/generalities/Sludge.htm

A chalky residue is fine, but the fine wet concrete-like pee is sludge.

The thinking has changed regarding kale. It is now fine to feed it to rabbits on a daily basis.

Here is the list of good veggies and greens for rabbits. Those listed with a (I) after them, should be given less frequently due to being higher in oxalic acid. The ones with (II) after them, which includes kale, can be given every day.
