Why does my bunny hate me? :(

So, I’ve had my bunny Jax for about five months now (he just turned 6 months old on the 3rd), but I feel like he absolutely hates me. Everytime I open the cage he runs away from me. When hes out, he is terrified to come near me. I’ve tried just sitting on the floor with him while he runs around, but unless I have pellets in my hand he stays far away from me. I don’t know if hes just a temperamental teenage bunny and maybe things will change when he gets fixed? I love the little guy so much but I don’t feel its mutual. My first bunny I had warmed up to me from the very beginning and we bonded within a week (she was a female, he is a male – I got her from a pet store, I got him from a breeder). Its been five months and I feel like its impossible to bond with this bunny.

He will calm down some after he’s fixed and healed (the first few weeks after his neuter he might actually get worse, but that’s normal). Other than that, I think he probably is one of those buns that needs a long time to trust a person. I have a bun like that, he wouldn’t let me pet him for a year unless I had treats for him, and as soon as he’d finished eating, he ran away from me again to his hide-out under the coffea-table. Now I can sit him in my lap and he just relaxes and licks my arms as I pet him. But it took us a while to get there. The first person he warmed up to was actually not me but my mother, when she came visiting.

So I think a) he doesn’t hate you, he’s just a nervous type bun b) if you keep doing what you’re doing, he’ll learn to trust you with time and treats and love.

I am sure your bunny doesnt hate you. My Harry mostly hangs around me if I have treats, rarely want me to pet him but mostly he’s doing his thing. Had him about as long as you had yours.

Compared with Tin-Tin, who I have had 2 days, he flopped down pressed against my leg within a few hours, I was very surprised. He seems to love attention. They are for sure individuals. ?
