Hi, I have been all over the internet searching and I have not been able to find anything to help. So I thought I would ask. If this is in the wrong section please just move it.

Okay, I have a female Flemish Giant who has been spayed. The behaviour she is demonstrating now has happened once before but it stopped abruptly. She is permanently attached to me no matter where I walk, sit, or go. This would be great but when she is snuggling around she bites me (not to hard) regardless of how much attention I am giving back. She also is pooping around me non stop. She is litter trained and still uses it. But does this other behaviour. Sometimes before she jumps up or runs over she thumbs a few times and sometimes even makes a little growl sound but it doesn’t seem to be in a negative way but everything i read about growling is negative. How do I get her out of this? Or, what do I do differently?

How long ago was she spayed? My female flem makes noise sometimes, sometimes a growly sound sometimes a honking sound, it was considerably more right after her spay when she was still hormonal, not so much now. It sounds like she’s being a bit bossy with you, perhaps just trying to show you that you are entering her space and letting you know it. I know some others say squealing when they nip can teach them that they are hurting you… I tried that with one of my other buns, he didn’t seem to get the message. But all my buns know the word “no” now, and they will move on.

If she’s thumping at you when you stop petting her, she’s probably telling you that she doesn’t want you to stop. Nothing much to do there but have her get over it, and she will.

I’m guessing she’s still young and learning your routine and maybe still getting over her hormonal stage right now. The pooping around you will stop when that eases up (if that is the case).

I was going to question how long ago she was spayed as well.
Is she the only pet in the house?
Does she have complete free reign in your home or is she designated to certain areas?
She sounds aggressive to me that’s why I have all the questions.

She was spayed like 4 months ago maybe me. She stopped this behaviour last time when she was given a bath! She didn’t like it. She is the only pet and she has free reign over living room and hallway – but not the other rooms. She goes into a cage only at night when I am sleeping and her cage is in my bedroom so I can keep an eye on her. I am thinking she maybe being bossy… (She recently was looked after for 5 days by a friend and she stayed in the cage the whole time). What should I do if this is the cause?

I’m wondering now if she’s just giving you a temper tantrum from the recent 5 day sleepover!

I’m not sure what advice to give you about bossy buns, I think most of us kinda let our buns get away with whatever they what… mostly… as long as it doesn’t cause THEM harm! LOL

Hopefully someone else will give some good advice to you!

I’d say it’s rather a waste of time to try and discipline a bossy bunny or to dominate over it. A bunny is very different from a dog. Dogs want to please their humans, if only to get a treat or a favorite toy, but bunnies don’t care if they p.. their humans off.

I think she’s marking you as hers and that she’s guarding you. Like you were a bonded bunny couple. If the growl were unfriendly, I think you’d know it. My Yohio growls. Then he attacks with his claws. He used to do it with me but now it’s the broom that’s his enemy. There’s no way you could even suspect that growl to be anything but very un-friendly.The sounds bunnies make must always be interpreted in context.

Thumping or nipping when you stop petting a bun is not uncommon. The other day my bunny Yohio nipped the tip of my nose when I tried to stop petting him (I wanted to go back to sleep, he wanted me to get up and get him some breakfast. Guess who won? Yep, the bunny.)

It sounds like she’s still hormonal and from what I’ve read some girl buns can be territorial etc for more than 6 months up to a year after they’ve been spayed.
