I don’t know what happened. She was fine and then she was gone. We bought her a huge dog crate for christmas, made two levels in it for her. She loved it and was very active. She was out last night, cuddling. I heard what i thoughy was her digging before I ran to the store. I came back home and she was dead. I’m wondering now if what I heard wasn’t her having a seizure, but I don’t know what would have caused it. Nothing in her routine had changed.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I had a sudden loss of my very first rabbit, and it’s very devastating. Vets can perform a necropsy (like an autopsy) if you are interested you could phone yours to see if he/she could help.
I think it may be of little value, unless you are worried that there was a transmittable illness and you have other rabbits, or to satisfy your need to know. But sometimes they do just slip away-there could have been something she was born with, a seizure, blood clot, stroke etc.

You said she was happy and healthy previous, so I’m sure there was nothing you could have done to prevent it. I’m so very sorry for your loss. -sending you a virtual hug-

I’m so very sorry to hear this. As Kokanee says, since she was active and cuddling and seemed totally fine, this was not something you could have prevented. Sometimes it’s about a congenital heart-defect. That can occur in all mammals, and you never see a symptom because the animal isn’t having any symptoms, the heart just stops.

                That is so very sad.
It sounds as if it was quick though and she also had a great life with you.
Sometimes these things happen – there was nothing you could have done to prevent it, nor see it coming.
I hope in time you can open your heart and your home to give another bun a loving home.

Thank you all for the support. It’s been a tough few days. I miss Sugar Plum and her sweetness. I finally broke down and moved Trixie into Sugar plums old cage, since she was next in the size line, and Oz still seems content in his bun house. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten up and thumped the cage out of fear because she’s been so happy with the extra room that I’ve found her stretched out in the super relaxed position, which is also how I found Sugar Plum. I’m still super scared and paranoid of anything happening to her or Oz, even though I know that there probably wasn’t anything I could have done for a sugar Plum as fast as everything happened (my husband also thinks it was something congenital. He believes there was quiet a bit of inbreeding going on where she came from since she didnt come from somewhere house bunny friendly and thinks that may have contributed to her death.)
