Oreo was found neglected, covered in filth, in a backyard. He was soaked from the rain, and had broken his top teeth from chewing the bars on the hamster cage that he had been squished into. The cage had sunk into the mud and gotten stuck there. It prevented me from lifting the cage up to get him out. Had to cut him out with wure cutters. His left rear leg had been caught and twisted in the wire.
After being rushed to the vet, I learned he would probably be okay with some TLC. But after a lond time of wrapping his leg, it still wouldn’t heal. It was badly fractured and dislocated. Pins wouldn’t help, it needed to be amputated.

Last week, I drove to my bun savvy vet, and she performed the amputation. I am so glad that she did! He is hopping around like a perfectly normal bun. He is deaf, but is doesn’t stop him from anything. He will be neutered in a few weeks, but Bobbi is spayed so I do let them hang out together. Oreo used to hardly move, but now he is racing Bobbi! They are best friends, and don’t spend much time apart! They even sleep snuggled up together. I’ve never had an issue with them fighting, I think that they understand each others disabilities, and help each other out that way. He does look kind of funny with only one back leg, and he sits odd now. My vet said that I will have to help him clean his ears, do you have any tips for that? With Bobbi, I swab them with mineral oil and inspect them for anything unusual, but am I doing that correctly? She is paralyzed in her rear legs, so she can’t clean he ears either, he is deaf, so is there a different way I should clean them?
        Thanks for all your help!

So good to hear more about Oreo! His poor leg, he’ll be much better off without it since it wouldn’t heal.

It’s so great that he and Bobbi took to each other like that. Oreo must think he’s dreaming =)

Wow, Oreo’s story. That broke my heart but how amazing of you to take him in, love him, and show him what life is supposed to be like. This world is a better place with people like you in it! Keep up the good work.

So glad to hear he is adapting well. That painful leg is gone now and he’s free to run around.
