        Hello!

So, my little bun got neutered on Tuesday early in the morning and I picked him up just a few hours later with his pain medications. I’m supposed to give him his medication once a day in the morning. I set an alarm to give it to him every morning at 7:30 and he is SO easy with the medication. He loves the taste and gulps it up. It’s been a little bit harder to leave him in his cage though because normally he just roams free with his cage door open (even when I sleep), but the vet said he should be in his cage when he is unsupervised just to be safe. Lately I have been staying up once I give him his medication and then I don’t go to sleep until much later so he has about 15 hours out of his cage.

ANYWAYS, my problem is that today is Christmas Eve and I should be going to see my family and stay through Christmas (at the very least). He has never been to my parents house (which is about 45-50 minutes away), so I’m nervous about making him suffer through the stress of that after his surgery. Normally when I leave, my roommate is here to take care of him, but she is with her family for Christmas as well. I would just let him be and fill him up since I could probably make it back in 24 hours, but then he would miss his pain medication, which really worries me, or he could rip out his stitches.

I was just wondering if anyone has traveled after a neuter and how their bun handled it and if you have any advice as to what you think I should do in this situation?

P.S. he has hated the car rides so far to the vet which is about 5-10 minutes

I’d bring him unless he’s the type of bun that really can’t cope with a car ride. I’d not leave a newly operated bun alone. If you have a cosy carrier for him and put in a fleece blankie and fresh wet vegs so he can have a nibble if he gets hungry/thirsty, I’d much rather do that than leave him home alone. You need to check on him and he needs your presence, I think. You don’t want him to stop eating, pull out stiches, get depressed and hypothermic or sth like that.

It really is better to be able to keep an eye imo. Plus Christmas will be less enjoyable if you have to worry about your bun all the time.

Thank you! When you responded I had him his little carrier already ready to go with his fleece blankey. He didn’t enjoy the trip too much even though he had a whole room to himself away from all the noise, but it was definitely worth bringing him for my sanity and his pain meds.

I think that was the best choice! I take it he’s fine now? I brought my buns with me over Christmas, one of them wasn’t exactly thrilled, but the other one loves going to my mother and binky in her living-room. Only time he binkies. Buns are such little personalities!
