› Forum › THE LOUNGE › She’s here!
I picked her up this afternoon, and she is currently bun loafing in her litter box It took her a while to decide that it was ok to make her way out of the carrier, but she finally decided that the linoleum wasn’t all that scary and came out Here are a few pictures, but ignore the lighting and lack of editing. I just got new software to process my images in and it’s very confusing and a bit of a pain to learn, so it’ll be a bit before I show anyone any of the photos coming out of it
Also, which name do you think would suit her better? Athena or Calypso?
Oh, and just in case anyone wants to know, I shot all of the photos in a Nikon D3100 with a Nikkor (I believe) fixed 50mm lens
She looks absolutely adorable!
Congratulations on moving in together and I wish you a lot of binkies…
Oh and P.S. I could guess you are a photographer by the comment about how unperfect the pics are. Even thought they look grat to me.
I know two more with the same photographer perfectionism. ☺
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I love her!!!!!!
Oh, no nonononononono. Her name is Brigid. Definitely Brigid.
She is too cute 🙂 I think Athena has a stronger character than Calypso, who wanted what she could not have. She held Odysseus captive for 7 years as her desired husband. When he wanted to return to his wife, Athena ordered Calypso to let him go. However – Calypso is a beautiful name 🙂
What vanessa? You say Brigid is a good name? You have such good taste. Hehehe!
Athenea… Adorable bun!
Yay! She’s home! Calpyso has my vote (*puts duct tape on LBJ’s mouth*) LBJ votes for Calypso also! Teehee
Nice… I do like Brigid 🙂
(*remove duct tape from LBJ’s mouth*)
Brigid is the Celtic goddess of fire, poetry, childbirth, healing & unity 🙂
I like the stories behind the names. My ex wanted to name our dog Hades. That means death – hell. Hell no! I names him Arthur – from King Arthur and the Nights of the Round Table.
Calpyso is my vote!
She is stunning and oh my god those ears are precious! I just wanna bury my face in them!
Wow, so many opinions I don’t know where to start! lol. I posted a picture of her on my fb and instagram and so far it looks like Calypso is in the lead…but my mind could be changed I definitely prefer the name Athena because I think it’s a beautiful name, but Calypso seems to fit what little of her personality I’ve seen so far. Dang it, I just want ONE of the pets to fit the name Athena
And thanks everyone for telling me JUST how cute my bun is She IS quite adorable imo. The only problem is she’s pretty thin…I don’t know if she was on hay before or not? I know that she was on pellets, calf manna (yeah, once she’s settled in I am throwing that out!), and oatmeal…but the breeder never mentioned any hay. She is DEVOURING the hay I put in her litter pan with her (and I think she’s already caught on to the whole litter training thing! She was hopping around her pen and went back to the litter box to pee and then jumped back out), which I am very happy about since her poops are small and black (which could easily be from the stress of a very winding and bumpy 2 day long car ride in the back of a trailer). But she is really thin. I’m switching her to Oxbow Young Rabbit formula, should I add in some oats or other fatty food once I switch her over? I have her on Orchard hay (I have Timothy as well…Orchard was just Luna’s preferred hay) and I’m thinking of giving it a week and then going back and seeing if having her on the new hay puts weight on to her? After the holidays I’m going to schedule a check-up with my vet, I just don’t want a bunny that’s a bag of bones!
Vanessa – I know. I think it’s a fitting name for such a beautiful bunny.
Brunosmama – Go Team Brigid!!!!
I don’t think she looks too thin. A healthy bunny has some skeleton that you can feel. We are used to seeing fat chubby house rabbits. 2 of mine are chubby. 1 is overweight. 1 is a good weight. I thought he was underweight, but the vet said that he is fine. Animals in the wild aren’t round and chubby like our pets. They have some skeleton that can be felt. I wouldn’t try to fatten her up. I would just decide on a healthy diet, and start her off without any bad eating habits. I wouldn’t use oats. Fantastic that she devours hay. I’d keep up with the hay, and get a good quality young rabbit pellet and free feed till about 6 or 7 months, when I would start to limit the pellets. You could also add alfalfa hay. But I wouldn’t try to fatten her up on purpose. House bunnies are cared for my doting mamas – so they mostly fatten up regardless.
I know that they shouldn’t be fat…And from a distance she doesn’t LOOK skinny, but if you put your hands on her there isn’t that nice, thin covering of fat over her bones (her hips are very prominent and bony) It’s probably just that she’s growing, and the hay should put some on, plus she was fed with her litter mates who are all a bit bigger than her…but Luna never felt like that when she was growing (and the vet LOVED her weight most every time we went in…after we got her on a good feed schedule/mostly healthy that is ). She always had a bit of a thin ‘coating’ over her vertebrae, ribs, and hips. I’m just neurotic and like to have all of my bases covered I’ll try her out on the young rabbit food for a bit and (obviously) the free choice hay for a couple of weeks/until I can get in with the vet Do you recommend the Oxbow pellets? Or is there a better pellet for large breed youngsters (I know that for large and small dogs the ‘puppy’ food is different for the two…and an important difference)?
I love the name Brigid! She is my favorite goddess and also associated with rabbits (or hares) because of Imbolc.
She is GORGEOUS those ears are just amazing. I hope she puts on the weight you’re hoping for quickly.
I haven’t heard of pellets for big/small breeds. Perhaps with feeding i a litter she didn’t get as much as the others. My bunnies had 4 litters. I recall some of the youngsters being chubby, and some being skinny. I’m pretty sure that just by not having to compete with littermates for food – she’ll pick up weight nicely. As long as she is eating her hay, and has a good appetite, I believe she will pick up weight quite nicely. Nothing like doting mama-love and good food, to keep a bunny healthy :-).
BunnyAlly, thank you! She is quite the adorable little bun
Vanessa, I just asked because the breeder confused me by saying that the larger breeds need more protein than the smaller ones (which makes sense)…I guess I’m going to have to research and see it I can find a feed that is still pretty well balanced but has a higher protein percentage! And thank you for calming me down, when I picked her up last night and felt how much bonier she is than Luna was I was slightly concerned
Another one for Brigid! See abh, I told you the master has spoken.
Calypso is so fun to say though. Brigid reminds me of frigid, which is cold and stark. (* looking for more duct tape*)
Calypso is fun to say Brigid is beautiful, but according to the votes on my fb and insta Calypso is by far and away the winner
But was Brigid even in your original poll?
LBJ- No, no it was not Although my uncle put the name ‘Dumbo’ into the ring, and my best friend tossed in ‘Waffles’. Bother were shot down fairly quickly
Ah ha! So you see, that doesn’t determine anything then. It’s okay, Brigid will forgive you.
Dumbo!!! There is undoubtedly a slight, ever so slight, barely noticeable, likeness.
Calypso-Bridgid is a lovely name. Can’t be many bunnies out there called Calypso-Bridgid.
My Uncle is quite enamored with the name ‘Dumbo’ for the bun I am doing everything in my power to dissuade him and get him OFF of that train of thought
Calypso-Brigid IS a most lovely name. Especially when it is in THAT particularly order
I saw the video and just LOVED that one misplaced ear over her head! I still think Athena, she just looks like one to me!
Abh – yes, I totally agree. Brigid-Calypso has a nice ring to it.
Dumbo, like the Disney movie? When I was a little kid that was my FAVORITE movie, I’d get up really early when it was still dark out and watch it every morning. Although I don’t think Dumbo would be a proper name for a lady like bun like her.
You could call her Brilypso. And keep LBJ piped down a bit. (*where’s that duct tape!?*)
Brilypso is brilliant! Yes. I vote Brilypso
Awe cute, Brilypso.
Hey abh – fab piccies of Callie-B-A (Calypso Brigid Athéna…) said quickly that sounds lovely…
She’s going to be lurrrrved soooooo much !! Lucky her – Lucky you ! xx
Hopper, isn’t it adorable when she does that!?! She does that when it gets in her way of hopping. Just throws it over a shoulder and hops around less impeded
LBJ- I KNOW, CALYPSO-Brigid is just perfection!
Moxie- Hehehe, yes, like the movie I was never a fan of the movie, it would make me all sorts of funky for days after…I binge watched Tom & Jerry, Scooby Doo, Liberty Kids, and CyberChase as a kid (along with most of the really old cartoons). I don’t have the attention span for movies
BrunosMama- Yes, where is that duct tape? It’s gotta be around here somewhere *looks around*
Vienna- Thank you! And said quickly it DOES sound very pretty! I think Calypso Brigid Athena is a PERFECT name for her…but the Athena bit can be pulled off for when I FINALLY get a black little Friesian filly…which may be when Jesus comes back and takes pity on me, but hopefully it’ll be sooner than that
eeeeears
Oh, she is such a beautiful bunny! Is she a purebred English Lop? She looks like it…
My vote is Athena, because the goddess was believed to be a strong character.. plus I just like the name Calypso does sound nice, however… either can work, I think!
cinnybun – Don’t you mean Brigid? Yes, now that is a strong name.
In the spirit of Christmas and Peace, LBJ, you should settle in the middle with Brilypso.
Wow, she’s a beautiful English Lop!!
I would go with Athena, since she is a beautiful goddess of wisdom and battle… But, if I were to make a suggestion, I like the name Artemis. She’s the Greek goddess of the moon and the hunt. (My favorite goddess too)
Brunosmama – NEVER!!!!!
I agree with Brunosmama for Brigid with an F, but I didn’t dare say – LOL
And Brilypso makes me think of Brillo Pads which are in the UK balls of steel wire for scrubbing pots and pans and things…. mmm
Athéna IS a fantastic name for a horse…
However – now that you’ve had her for a couple of weeks – you are surely calling her something…. (Callie’s my bet..!)
What did you decide on ?
Duh Vienna Blue, she’s calling her Brigie. :p
