I’ve had my new bunny for about a week now. She’s come from the pet store and since I’ve brought her home I’ve noticed she sneezes a lot. Then the other day when she was sniffing my ear I heard her breathing sounds a bit squeaky and her nose is wet.

I have a vet appointment with her on Monday to get her vaccinations so I will mention it then, but should I be worried in the meantime? She is very lively, eats and drinks well and seems otherwise perfectly happy binkying around the place. Her droppings look normal as well.

You should get a check up while at the vet to know if she has problems and I honestly don’t know rabbit medical stuff so uhhhhh

It sounds like a vet should have a look. Sometimes a new bun gets the snuffles, it’s most often caused by a bacteria that’s always present in the bun’s nasal cavity, but when the bun experiences stress (like the stress of getting a new home and a new owner), the bacteria start to grow and the bun gets symptomatic. A vet might prescribe antibiotics. It’s best you get this sorted before she’s vaccinated, since only healthy animals (and people) should get vaccinated. But all vets know that of course.

Meanwhile there’s not a lot you can do but monitor her eating and providing a nice dry comfy habitat with a hidey-box so she feels safe. It’s Monday pretty soon. (I take it you are in Europe since she’s getting vaccinations). If she should decline rapidly, you of course need to take her to an ER vet, but if she’s eating and pooping and is active, Monday will be fine.

Both vets said my bunny is fine,he sneezes a lot, he has since I got him, some days a lot, we notice more things with indoor bunnies, the vet told me Olly has an allergy to hay and should have hay cookies, but like bam said mention it to the vet on Monday, you have just reminded me Olly is due his booster injections soon next month, oh dear more money, but he’s worth it, good luck at the vets and mention everything, even what you feed him, it could simply be an allergy, so don’t panic.
              Looking forward to good news
