We have been treating Olive for yeast infections in his ears for 2 months. It appears that he still has the infection. He just finished with 3 weeks of antibiotics for an ear infection. I’ve noticed note that his front paws have matted fur. He has a bit of a damp nose but certainly not runny. He’s eating fine and seems to be in good spirits. I have a vet appointment for him Tuesday afternoon but his damp nose isn’t new so I’m not very hopeful that she’ll be able to offer any new ideas. What do you all think is going on?
Should we just keep treating the yeast with ear drops and ignore the matted fur if the check up shows nothing new? If the drops haven’t worked by now, will they??

If they are antibiotic drops, then no they won’t work. Yeast isn’t bacteria.

No they are antifungal. He’s had an oral antibiotic for a staff bacteria found in his ear in addition to the yeast for the past 3 weeks. So ear drops for 2 months and abs for 3 weeks.

Ah, I see. Hmm……. what antifungal is it? Perhaps you need to try a different one. Just like bacteria can become resistant to certain antibiotics, yeast can become resistant to certain antifungals.
