We first brought Jax home in the middle of October and took him to the vet in November for a check up (everything was fantastic) so yesterday we did our first monthly health check up with him. I held him while my partner inspected and he found this thing on his front right paw. We aren’t sure what it is and he seemed worried about it. I told him I would ask the knowledgeable folks on Binky Bunny about it! It’s hard to see in the picture, it’s the small pinkish bump. It is a little bit more red in real life. Seems to be below/beside his nail.

Any thoughts? Should we take him to the vet?

All of his behaviours seem fairly normal with the exception that he has been consistently pooping and occasionally having small pees just in front of his litter box (I have another thread on this). Not sure if the two things are related or not.

It is difficult to see what’s going on with the foot. Do you think there’s pus in it? If there is, he might need antibiotics. Is he sore? Limping? Licking his foot? Can you see if the thingt has increased in size since you took the pic?

Buns are prone to abscesses when they get wounds, and bunny-abcesses can be tricky to get rid of, so treatment should be started sooner rather than later.

He is about a year and a half.
It doesn’t seem to be filled with pus, it feels hard. Haven’t noticed any limping or licking and he didn’t seem bothered when we were looking at it and touching it.

It’s really puzzling, are all his nails ok? The safest thing is of course to have a vet look at it. It doesn’t sound like anything really bad since he was A ok in November, he doesn’t seem to be bothered by it and he’s young. Could it be some type of callus?
But then there’s the toilet-issue too. Do you have any other pets in the household?

It’s hard to tell just from a picture. Could be an abscess/infection sprouting from the nail root. Abscesses can be filled with hard pus. It could be a wart-like growth, callus, or even something like a bunion. If it wasn’t there before, then it’s worth having it checked out to make sure it isn’t anything serious/treatable.

                  Chom had the same issue!

We took him to the vet, and the vet said it was probably a callus forming. Or the absolute start to sore hocks, so to be safe she had us put antibiotic cream on it, wrap it in gauze, with a heavy padding over it and medical wrap his paws where they were. Then also for one hour each day had us soak a towel in warm water and epsom salt. Leave the towel nice and saturated, and had him confined in his travel cage, sitting on it, to soak into his paws.

They went away on his back feet not long after, since those ones were red and aggrivated, but he does still have them on his front paws, and we are convinced they are just calluses.

                    He is our only pet.
Hmmmm. I’m still torn if we should take him to the vet or just continue to monitor for awhile. Only thing is that it’s tricky to monitor as he despises being picked up and he won’t let me hold his paw long enough when he stands up to check that way either
