So, I discovered the other day, our youngest cat Jojo (2 yrs) has been using Butternut and Backers litter box again. I think he’s only peeing a small, if any, amount. Any ideas how I can stop him from doing this? We have two litter boxes for the cats, and he’s good about using them regularly. Theirs is the only box he uses. Maybe try adding a 3rd kitty box? We have four kitties, although only 3 use them. The fourth can’t get in and out of the box, so she goes beside the box. Do they make low rise kitty boxes?

Ok, a quick search on Amazon answers my low rise litter box question. I’ll put that on next paydays list.

They have litter boxes that are open on one side. My kitty would get his body inside the box, but his rear would stick out the side and, well, you can probably guess what happened. LOL

How bad is it for a cat to do his/her business in a bunny litter box? That’s debatable. There are definitely valid concerns about cat poop possibly having something harmful in it. Pee, I suppose would be less worrisome. I would discourage it as much as you can. You know, to be on the safe side.

Apparently it’s recommended to have the number of cats=the number of litterboxes plus 1. So if you have 1 cat you’d need two, 2 cats 3, and so on. I don’t know how reasonable that is, because a lot of people can’t have litterboxes all over their house. Like LBJ said, I’d just try and discourage it to be on the safe side. =]

Is there any kind of smell that your cat hates and your bunny doesn’t mind? If so you could use it as a deterrent.

It’s possible your cat is trying to show your bunny in a “diplomatic” way that everything belongs to him by re-marking over the poor bun’s scent. Save shooing him off when you catch him in the act I can’t think of anything else. Good luck

The problem actually started several months ago when we bonded Butternut and Backers. Butternut was Jojos favorite bunny, they even snuggled and groomed. Then she met Backers and dumped her kitty boyfriend lol. Jojo started marking their box then, but stopped for quite awhile. I’m not sure what’s got him started again. Sigh. Critter drama lol.

                    Maybe JoJo’s jealous?

I think so, Moxie. Our house is like a bunny soap opera!

That’s weird. My cat has an enclosed litterbox, but I put it outside because her butt-bombs were so atrocious. She doesn’t use it outside – she buries her business in the leaves…

Stick this on Bunny’s tray, see if that works.
