I’m taking my mini lop doe on a week-long trip with me. its a fairly long drive, over 6 hours. ill be bringing her in the carrier and it will be on the floor of the vehichle, between seats. i need suggestions! it wont be hot or cold where were going, between 50-70 degrees Fahrenheit. i think im putting newspaper and hay down as bedding for the carrier, and for her cage im bringing her small wooden hutch with a wire floor and dropping tray. this is her first time being transported anywhere (besides bringing her home), and i would like to make it as little stressful as possible. she is harness and leash trained so i should be able to let her out to run around in the forest when we make rest stops, and when we get there she can go out to exersize that way. but is there anything i should keep in mind? what stuff should i bring for her? im bringing her normal pellets and some treats, and her normal dishes except for when were actually driving, she will just drink her water from a bottle instead of bowl. but i just want to make sure i get everything she needs. so any tips or advice i could use to make it as little stressful and uncomfortable as possible?

Make sure that she has lots of hay to munch on. That gives buns something to do and decreases stress (at least, it did with my bunny!) Also, does your Mini Lop regularly drink from a water bowl and not bottle? If so, try swapping the bowl for a bottle a few days before the trip so that she gets used to using the bottle. Just make sure to give her lots of love and tell her that it will be all right. Also, I would suggest bringing an easily moveable X-pen / playpen. I’ve heard that harness and leash at rest stops can be stressful to the bun (although I might be wrong) and that they can be so nervous that they just take off. Like I said, I might be wrong, but I would bring a playpen anyways. Have a great trip with your bunny!

I would bring a pen like Cinnybun2015 said. Also, you could, on rest stops, allow your rabbit to hop around in the car. I read that it can be okay to take her out on a harness, if you notice any body language that shows thats shows she scared take her back in. You can give her some toys (something she has used before because it helps her) to be boredom breakers.

You may want to strap the carrier in the seat if you have spare room. If you do so don’t let the “windows” or anything that she can see out of be near the window, she won’t enjoy seeing the world fly by.

My last word of advice is to make sure the heat and/or sun will NEVER be directly on it.
You may have to rearrange it on stops.

Besides that, have fun on your vacation!

I took my bunnies on 2 five-hour drives. They didn’t want out their travel cage during stops. I drove during the day when they normally sleep, so they weren’t eating or drinking. They did eat and drink when we arrived at the hotel. I’d be more concerned about what to bring if I were traveling between 5pm and 8am, when they are more active. During their typical sleeping time (9am to 5pm), they don’t normally eat or drink at home anyway. I don’t use a harness. I’d try a test run – put them in the car, drive 10 or 15 minutes, stop somewhere unfamiliar, and see how comfortable they are on the harness. I suspect that my 2 males would be fine, and my 2 females would be freaked out. My boys are much more courageous. Hopping around the car sounds like a good idea. But like I said – mine felt safe in their travel cage and didn’t want out. If I were you, I’d travel during their sleeping time. After 2 hours, mine had settled down and were asleep and snuggling together.

I forgot to mention but you may want to take her on a 5-15 minute car ride every other day before leaving day. This will prepare her. Don’t do this though on the day of the ride!
