i am going on a week-long vacation and i want to take one of my bonded does with me. but i am concerned… if i separate them that long will they fight and hate eachother when i get back? or will they still be buddies? they are actually sisters and not spayed, but even though they are adults they still LOVE eachother. they are kept in a VERY large cage together and groom eachother and snuggle constantly. (i have never seen them fight EVER.) but i am worried… could they dislike eachother for some ‘bunny’ reason when i get back with one? of course the alternative is to bring BOTH bunnies, but i only have one carrier and cage that i can bring so i dont have room for 2 bunnies. PLEASE help me and respond soon because i am leaving for this trip in 3 days!!!!!!! and i would LOVE to bring a bunny, but i want them to still be best buds. so plz give me any help and advice u can! thanks!!!!!!

From what I understand, separating a bonded pair is not advised and can be very stressful on both rabbits-they miss each other and mourn for one another. They can get depressed and stop eating, which is not good for bunnies. The rabbits won’t realize that it’s just a vacation- that it’s only temporary

The stress of travel is also a factor. I know other members have mentioned the stress of moving rabbits and having to get them settled in again.

I’m not the most knowledgeable, so I’m going to step aside and let other members take the stage but my initial thought is that it’s not a good idea to separate them. Bonding rabbits can be very difficult at times, so it’s best not risk them becoming unbonded.

You should never separate bonded bunnies if it’s avoidable (there may be instances of injury or sickness when you have to). It’s very bad for the bunnies, not just because they can become un-bonded but because they are so dependant on each other that they can become physically ill when separated. You shouldn’t risk that. Either bring both buns or none.
