Oliver is BARELY eating on his own. So I’ve been syringing about 40-50mLs of critical care daily. I’ve noticed that since I started he’s really not eating his cecals. He has been hopping around like an insane 1 year old rabbit for the past three days and just pooping his cecals right out as he hops. (The activity is another thing that’s confusing me. He’s not really sleeping during the day now) Is this because he’s getting all those nutrients from the cc? Should I stop feeding so much?

The vet will be calling tomorrow with results from an ear culture. Should I mention this as a possible symptom of whatever is happening to him?

*that would be 40-50mLs once mixed with water. It’s hard to convert between g and mL but I think I’m underfeeding him according to the cc website.

It sounds to me like he’s benefiting from the nutrients in the CC, but excess cecals is a sign of a too rich diet. He does need to eat his cecals, they are essential. Maybe he eats some when you don’t see it? Cecals are nick-named night-poop because they tend to happen at night.

I think you should tell your vet about this. If a bunny gets too much of too nutritious food you notice it in two ways: the bunny gets fat and it gets sticky poop. Sticky poop is crushed cecals that stick to the hind quarters of the bun. Also known as poopy butt.

Critical Care recommends you mix CC with 3 parts water, but I have never measured up the water, just mixed it to a practical thickness.
