Hello! I’m brand new to the forum, although I have been lurking for some time. I finally caved and adopted a rabbit a few days ago.

I know that this question has been asked a thousand times, but I’ve been obsessively counting my bunny’s breaths and although his habits seem normal (eating, drinking, binkying a bunch, running around like crazy, exploring, etc), his breathing does seem abnormally fast. I’ve already started looking for local vets, but was wondering if some of you would be able to calm my nerves until I can get him a visit. I’ve attached a video of him laying down so hopefully that helps.

Misc information: age is unknown unfortunately, but he does seem a bit on the light side. I know smaller rabbits tend to breathe faster, but I just want to make sure this is normal. I’m a super anxious and cautious person when it comes to my pets

(He is going to be a house bunny, but I’ve had him in my room for the first few days so he can get acquainted with his “home base” before exploring the rest of the apartment. Don’t want the cage in the background scaring anyone lol. It’s merely his litter box.)

I can post a video later of him being more active if that would help as well. Thank you in advance!

Hi, sorry someone didn’t respond sooner.

          How is your bunny doing?

That does seem a bit fast. Maybe he’s just stressed out in his new home.

It’s always a good idea to have a new bunny checked out by a vet. Did you find one yet?

See I’m unsure. Speckles looks very similar to your guy….

And she breathes INSANELY fast, and always had since we got her. Even the vet was surprised at how fast she was breathing, although her heart rate was perfect. She looked into it a bit further and found no issues and shrugged it off, saying maybe that’s just her quirk.

Still get your baby checked out. Also do you have any clue at what breed your baby is? I’m at a loss with Speckles.
