Hello! So my female bunny just got spayed today and the vet gave me some advice but I would like more! In fact, as much as possible!

She’s usually free roaming so I have her in my walk-in closet right now with access to food, water, her carrier with a blanket, and it’s warm and quiet. Right now she’s just kindof laying in a corner and doesn’t look very happy. She keeps shifting around as if she can’t get comfortable and she won’t eat anything or drink anything. Granted she just got home about an hour ago, but how long before I should try and syringe feed her?

I also put her bond in the closet with her for some comfort but the other bunny was too hyper and tried to hump her so I am keeping them separated for now.

Just some general tips on how long she’s going to go through this and how I can help would be great!!

        Thanks in advance!

i would definitely wait to put the other bunny in with her. the healing usually takes about 1-2 weeks (less in males) and usually I haven’t heard of people having to syringe feed rabbits after they’re spayed ? but idk because I have only been through surgery (neutering) my boy. if she doesn’t seem like she eaten or pooed in around 24 hours I would definitely call the vet but i think she’ll be fine!!

Have you gotten a painkiller for her and how long did the vet say to wait before you gave her some? Pain management is extremely important for newly spayed buns and you should have gotten a painkiller to last you at least a week.
It’s normal for her to not feel very well right now. You should offer her yummy food and treats in order to entice her to eat on her own. The sooner she eats, the better. Freshly rinsed greens will give her extra water.
You should also see to it that she’s warm, f ex with a hot water bottle wrapped in a blankie. Bunnies may get hypothermia after anesthesia and that’s dangerous. She must have space enough to move away from the heat-source if it gets too warm.

I hope you’ll get more answers and tips from other members. Many speedy-recovery vibes for your girl!
