My husband and I got married and moved away from home we rent so we got a bunny since we can’t have a dog. We thought about it overnight after seeing a rabbit and couldn’t get him out of our heads so we went and rescued him and he was loving allowed us to pick him up that was a Thursday that Friday we went back to my moms and he let me pick him up did great in the car and was loving to everyone at the house. Right now I’m a stay at home bunny mom and he gets about 4 + hours of floor time where I lay or sit on the floor with him. He’s grown too be very unloving towards us he lets me pet him his head but were not able to hold him pick him up or anything. Is it something we did or something we can do? He is intact as of right now we are finding a vet too have that fixed soon. He’s also become very lazy during the day he’s active in his cage (he’s in a converted dog crate he loves it) he has newspaper he tears at and toys he plays with all night and morning but recently during the day he’ll just lay somewhere and plop he’s eating and drinking normally. I love the little bun and just want him to be comfy my husband thinks he needs a friend but I’m scared to get another bun or pig until he’s fixed and we get him to be a little more loving towards us. Please help us I feel like a terrible bun parent!

we have a 7 month old dwarf Rex. He loved lettuce and hay!

It sounds like your baby bunny is growing up. Baby rabbits often accept or even enjoy being picked up and held, adult rabbits as a rule don’t want to be picked up or held. It’s an instinct, not a choice. Being picked up is the first step towards beconming somebody’s dinner, from a bunny’s point of view. It’s not something you’ve done wrong, it’s just a natural part of your boy being a teenager.

Most adult bunnies enjoy being pet on the head, nose, ears and nape of neck. Adult bunnies can very well become very cuddly and fond of pets, but on their own terms.

Adult bunnies also spend most of their day lying about. Rabbit are crepuscular, which means they’re active at twilight. So mornings and evenings are their active periods, during the day they like to lounge.

All in all your boy sounds perfectly normal and you seem like great bunny parents. It is better to have him fixed and fully healed (about 4 weeks) before you introduce a second bun. Intact males fight like mad dogs and intact boy + girl of course will mean babies.

I agree with Bam. You’re bunny is hitting puberty! Yaaaay! *whistle*
He’s getting all hormonal and territorial so a bunny friend wouldn’t be a good idea right now. And like Bam said; Bunnies don’t like to be picked up general. And yes, rabbits usually sleep during the day and are active in the evenings and mornings so it’s natural for him to be lazy when he’s out and about. So don’t worry it sounds like he’s a perfectly normal, fine rabbit! I would get him fixed soon though, spraying may come soon and no one likes that. Also humping or digging at the carpet. That all goes away when he’s spayed.

I agree with everything that’s been said. He sounds like a perfectly normal bunny to me.
