Has anyone else’s bun molted this season only to end up with a dramatically different winter coat?

Chewie has always been a pale dandelion-fluff gray on top, and snow white on his legs and tummy. Then, after his big molt this year, he is still snow white on his legs and tummy, but on top he is now a dappled white and darker gray. And he has grown these crazy big sideburns that make him look like Wolverine from the X-Men.

He is crazy cute! The sideburns are extremely becoming. I think he has at least one lionhead-parent. Lionheads have sideburns.

It’s not uncommon for a young bunny to change coloring and “fur-type” as it matures. Since they don’t have continous hair-growth it will show up after a molt. Dogs are like that too, they tend to have soft short hair as puppies and light puppies tend to darken, dark puppies may lighten.

I agree that he looks like he’s got some lionhead in him.

            Super cute!

Thanks, ladies. That makes sense. It just took me by surprise, because I looked at him one day and his smooth little cheeks had suddenly “sprouted”. lol

                He’s super adorable!!!

My Olivia is like a wild rabbit in that her coat is different in winter and summer. Summer she has very smooth and shiny fur and in the winter, her fur gets lighter, fluffier and thicker.

Chewie’s coat is like that now, LPT.

I’m Canadian, but after nearly a decade in Kuwait, I’ve gotten soft, and I may just have to use my snuggle bug’s furry little tummy as a foot-warmer for our above-zero winters. lol

Haha! Yeah, a good bunny snuggle is a definite must during a Canadian winter!!! Here on the East Coast, I really need to get a Flemish Giant! That would keep me warm!
